  • More weight lost on new program!

Hi all, I have been away from STAC and the Atkins program for about 3 wks now and changed over to a new eating program, Prism. I just couldn't budge off my weight for about 2 months on Atkins so I decided to change something and it is working. I must say that I did lose a total of 14 lbs on Atkins, though so it did work and then I stalled.

I was stuck at 155 lbs and now I am at 149.2! I have been losing weight every week now. It is still based on not eating white flour and sugar and eating only complex carbs. I am now eating beans, potatoes, all fruits and wheat or whole grain products. I can say I am not hungry and feel alot healthier and I now have baggy pants. I guess I needed the extra food choices.

I don't have the support that I got like this group but I do have a couple of friends that are doing it with me and they are also losing weight.

I just thought I would pop in and say "HI"! I hope you are all having your whoosies! I can now say that I have experienced one!

The difference is that you can't have the wine.........no alcohol. Also you are counting calories, so for women between 1000-1200 calories with at least 700 of them before dinner. If you are over 200 lbs then you can add calories, I think around 300 or so. Men get more calories. Fat content is lower than Atkins.

It is real similar to the higher rungs of Atkins but you get to do it all almost immediately. The first six weeks are just no sugar & white flour and then you can add whole wheat products, corn tortillas, popcorn and potatoes baked or boiled. You can have all types of fruit from the get go and veggies are encouraged like they are on any weight loss program. I think with the complex carbs, it is helping me not be hungry and I also get lots of snacks.

other then immediate rungs i rely don't see the difference in what youare saying cause you can have all the snacks you need on Atkins too. you can have all those foods you listed if your body can handle them and you don't ever hasve to drink wine either. Just curios since what you listed is Atkins OWL upper rungs why weren't you ating them on your Atkins?

Well, the biggest difference is in the carb counts. I still use Fitday.com and I am seeing that I eat about 135 - 200 carbs per day. Sounds like alot, doesn't it? My fat count is way down too. It is no where near where it was on Atkins. So I guess you can say I am no longer on a low carb program. This new program is working for me. I have been on it for four weeks now and have lost another 7 lbs. This is something I feel I can do for life.

When I did Atkins, I did not add the OWL rungs because I thought staying low carb, under 20 carbs per day, would help me to lose faster. I seemed to have stalled for over 2 months so I figured my body just needed to try something different. I stayed at 155.4 forever, it seemed. Now I am at 148.4 lbs. My final goal is somewhere around 138. I will know when I get there and how my clothes fit. My total weight loss is 20.6 lbs now...........YIPEE!!!

I will pop in once in a while to say "hi"!

oh so you never got there to see if you would lose eating those same foods as a part of your Atkins.

Actually many of us that workout a lot can eat over 100 net carbs which should be in the middle of your carbs or are those net carbs? are you eating high protein or just a 40-40-20 plan?

First - congratulations on finding a woe that works for you.

Not wanting to say anything against you changing WOE to a programme you feel more comfortable with but I cant help thinking that had you moved on to OWL while you were following the Atkins WOE you might have been able to restart your weightloss anyway.

Staying under 20 carbs for that long period obviously didnt help you lose faster, so I hope others in the same position reading this thread might move on to OWL instead and be able to start losing again without having to learn a totally new list of rules for eating.

BTW I am now eating between 50-70 net carbs and am still slowly approaching goal.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Isn't it awesome that you can discuss a different plan here and STILL get the support and positive vibes?! I just wanted to hop in and say how impressed I am that everyone here is adult enough to ask questions and express opinions without getting all territorial and defensive.

                            I love this board!
