  • What is your support system?

After posting the Sunday check in thread, I got to wondering how everyone else gets the support they need.

I know some of us out there dont feel as if they have any. Maybe by sharing where we get ours we can help those who dont feel as though they have any.

Besides coming here to , (where you get the absolute BEST support on the planet) ....................... where does your support come from?

Re: What is your support system?

Terry - I agree. When you eat, everyone wants to participate, but it seems when you want to lose weight, you feel very alone. When I started this WOE I didn't have any support system. Everyone in my family is skinny and didn't understand how I felt. I'd been doing Atkins for about 1 week when I found the ADBB. Thank goodness I found the people here. Through this site, I read the book and learned to do the plan the right way.

For me, I had to depend on myself. I had to Do what it took to make Atkins work and be committed to Making it happen. The ADBB lends all kinds of advice, support and motivation (which helped me tremendously!!!)...but only you are responsible for what you eat and drink and the exercise that you do. Many people will jump at the chance to help with your new way of life, but there will be others who will always try to jeopardize it. Atkins works. I've never been happier in my life as I am right now with my new weight and health. It is definitely worth it. Come here for your daily dose of motivation and encouragment. Read and re-read the success stories. Become friends with the people here who are doing it and can lend advice and ideas to help you when you have doubts. Believe in yourself. You are worth it. Everyone here wants to see you succeed!!
    Starting Date 3/12/04 285/165/145 - F

Dedication gives wings to our dreams and keeps them in flight! In One Word...COMMITTMENT.

Re: What is your support system?

Everyone I know takes for granted that I'm on this woe and they don't give it a second thought. I guess I'm lucky, because nobody tries to get me to eat anything I shouldn't, and they comment on how I'm doing frequently.

My dh is also very supportive, in a matter-of-fact way. He doesn't make a big deal out of it, because he loves me fat or thin, and thinks I'm adorable either way. <grin> So in a way, he helps me keep things in perspective, and that helped a lot when I was in that awful stall period.

          This is a wonderul thread!

I fall into that category as someone who has no support. And as much as it is said around here, without ADBB I wouldnt have been able to do this! I did induction for 2 weeks and lost 18lbs, since then I havent weighed myself and wont until the end of the year. If I wouldnt have found ADBB, then I never would have started, never would have lost the 18lbs (plus, whatever since then), and never would have started feeling good about myself. I owe everything I've done to ADBB and all you wonderful, wonderful people who make this WOE possible for someone like me. Thank you!!!

ADBB is my support. I wouldn't have made it this far without everyone else here confirming the dedication it takes. As for everyone else that tries to tear me down - well, it helps that I have a rebellious streak .

Re: What is your support system?

                  Hi all,

As anyone who reads my journal knows, my support comes from this board. I am like some who have mentioned they have no support on the homefront. Without the people here, I would have given up and run right into a Big Mac and fries weeks ago. I cherish the people here who are so uplifting and even when I whine they listen (read) and give me the encouragement and support that my body and soul need. I am lucky to have such a nice Internet family to rely on.

Re: What is your support system?

I am lucky enough to have my sister living just up the road from me. We started this woe together about a month ago and we keep an eye on each other. If we didn’t do this together, we would never get up at 5:00 in the morning to exercise.

ADBB gives us the added support and info we didn’t have before (probably why we failed so many times!!)

I know this sounds like a broken record, but this board is my support also. DH is very supportive but some times his support is a little irritating. I take it as a criticism.

No, I want to be cleo.

I get my support 95% from this board. Absolutely. No contest. I also get a tremendous amount from my dh (I still don't know what that stands for, but I think I am using it correctly). He is a huge supporter and actually bought my first book. He is very good about helping with recipes, too.

                            Only the board.

My Dear Husband is supportive, but since he has never been a pound overweight in his life, it DOES seem more like criticism, especially when I see him able to eat carbs with impunity. He's a sweetheart, who SAID he is surprised that I gained back 30 lbs, cuz he acts like I'm the prettiest woman alive! And I think he's so blind that he MEANS it!!

The other support has been people I haven't seen for a while, who say I look great, whatever I'm doing. But they almost always think I deserve a "break". Like the last few breaks--it will break my BACK carrying this extra weight!!!

So it's down to online support, 100 percent. I won't be able to do this without you.

This board has been my only true support for over a year, but recently my sweetie came back from deployment and last week he hopped on this board and on the Atkins bandwagon. Having him doing it with me has reenergized me to no end!!!
