  • Help me with some ideas

I'm in a class all this coming week. I've taken two classes at this place before, and they furnish both breakfast and lunch. Needless to say, breakfast is various kinds of pastries, bagels and muffins, along with some fruit, and coffee or tea. Lunch is usually either various types of pizza or a variety of sandwiches and chips. In addition to all that, they make big trays of freshly baked Otis Spunkmeyer cookies in the afternoon, and there are huge bowls of M&Ms in every classroom!

Now, I'm determined to not let the temptations get the best of me. Breakfast is simple enough -- I just eat before leaving the house. I know I can come up with some things to take along for lunch, but I'd really appreciate it if some of you have some additional interesting ideas for simple lunches that are easy to carry.

I'm going to go shopping tonight, specifically to pick up some things for lunch, and restock for breakfast, so your input would be most welcome!

call them and discuss their dietary options for those meals. could be they have other stuff for those on special diets.

Do you have a lunch mate type carrying kit?
Kroger will seel you one for $1 if you buy a pound of Booars heat meats and cheese. SInce i get them already iof course i forked out $1 for a new insulated lunch boz.

Oh, I hate those classes... you're totally bored and then they bring in yummies and you're supposed to say, "No thanks, I'm special." Ok, maybe overreacting a bit. But here's what I learned - it's cheap crap that's not worth blowing the diet.

Dark chocolate, homemade bread, grandma's fresh pie... maybe. Store bought stale pastries...never.

Beef jerky is my back up plan. I carry some in my backpack at all times. However, since you can plan ahead, you can do something like cheese, boiled eggs, cut cauliflower, celery w/ cream cheese, or tuna salad on lettuce.

You can buy an insulated lunch bag, or freeze a ziplock bag of water, wrap in a towel, put in a bigger ziplock, and put all in a double bagged brown paper sack. (or even better, reuse the ones from the store (Wal-Mart has them in my town)).

I try to take what I can out of what they provide, then snack as I get hungry (since the meat is generally not enough to satisfy me). Make sure you have something with fat, as that will help you feel satiated.

      Good luck and learn lots.

Bring a big bottle of water to keep your hands busy and out of the M&M's. Fill a lunch bag with salad, roast chicken, and dressing. Bring some cheese strings and beef sticks or pepperonic sticks for the late afternoon. Everyone else will be so envious of your great food, and you can just enjoy and gloat.

By the way I've notices that a lot of skinny people drink water and skip the pastries so don't feel self conscious about making health choices.

Same here. I've gone to several workshops where they have snacks on the table for the guests to munch on as they listen to the presentation. I usually take some beef jerky, string cheese, cut up celery, pepperoni, green pepper and/or baggie of pork rinds with me as my snack if I need one.

I drink water and it really doesn't bother me anymore that others are stuffing their faces with candy, chips and cookies.

I can resist fresh-baked cookies and m&ms if I have eaten a lot of fat recently. So whenever I'm going to be around them, I make sure I've eaten something high in fat, like devilled eggs, or cheese, or salami. Works every time!

I would eat breakfast before and then pack a lunch to take with. And some beef jerky to munch on is good.

I thought I'd let everyone know that it's really been no problem finding things to take for lunch. They have a refrigerator, there, so keeping things cold hasn't been a problem, either. Tomorrow, they're ordering me a salad when they get everyone's sandwiches, and I'm just going to bring some chicken or ham, and some cheese to throw in it.

I haven't touched one muffin, bagel, Otis Spunkmeyer cookie, or even a single M&M. I did have 1/4 of an apple today, and threw the rest away. So far, no problem!

Thanks for reporting back on this, Chris

It proves the truth of what is often said on this board - if you ask the catering staff/office at organisations it is often easy to arrange Atkins-legal foods intead of being stuck with the 'normal' choices.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
