  • Here are my beginning stats

    Hi guys,

I introduced myself briefly a few weeks ago.

My history: I've known about Atkins since the mid-90's when my mom did it. She has STILL kept her 40 lbs off to this day! I tried it then but was in college so had a hard time with it. Went to WW for years after that and was somewhat successful but always had the knowledge of Atkins in the back of my head.

In 2003, I was fed up with being sick as a dog after every meal and looked into Atkins again. Did all of the preparation that Dr. A suggests in the book - all the blood work and asked my doc for a GTT (never told her why. I knew I was probably hypogycemic and I was right!). Started in June 2003 and by April 2004, I had lost about 35 lbs. On my wedding day, I was 3 lbs below my weight entering college! Sort of let loose on my honeymoon and that "letting loose" lasted a year and a half and I gained back the 35 lbs. Stupid me.

My DH actually started Atkins after we got married and while I was gaining, he was losing! He lost almost 40 lbs but gained it back too. It's OUR fault. It's so hard to get back on track once you get off track!

So, I've tried over and over to start back with no luck. But I am proud of myself for deciding to start again NOW, not after Thanksgiving, not after Christmas, not after Valentine's Day, but NOW!

DH and I took pics of ourselves last night. We'll take those once/month. We are finally doing Atkins at the same time!!!

Here are my stats as of 11/16/05:
    204.5 lbs
    bust 41 in
    waist 36 in
    hips 49 in
    upper thigh 29 in

I have been doing pretty good at working out the last few months. I walk 45-1hr three or four times a week and do my WATP 3-mile video when I can't get outside. I am trying to win a Slim in 6 DVD on eBay. I have heard so many good things about it and I think I need a really challenging routine (walking is good but probably not intense enough by itself).

As for tracking what I eat, I use Fitday.

I will post pics if DH can ever find the cord for the digital camera so that we can download the pics!

I think we are both going to do induction for 1 week although we both think we'll want to just made a few modifications but basically keep going with that. I have always done good when I just add a few berries and nuts to my induction menu.

I am so glad for these forums. I have watched the WOL wax and wane in popularity but I will always be faithful to it. I KNOW it is the best way for me to eat. I still get so frustrated hearing the media try to discredit Dr. A (just heard something yesterday). I have NEVER doubted the heathfulness of this WOL.

Thanks, guys, for listening to me ramble!

    Jamie

P.S. I am also hoping to try and get pregnant next summer or fall so I have some motivation there! I can't add another 30 lbs to THIS frame! Plus, I have to be FIT if I want to push a baby out!

It's great that you are both Atkineering together - a ready made support team
I just wanted to mention that your body will be different now to when you did induction in the past so be aware that it might react differently to the 'add a few berries and nuts to induction' scenario. You may have to drop that idea if you start ot have problems losing.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
