  • Any Frankenfoods Okay?????

I know what the answer is going to be, but I guess I need to hear it anyway. I bought these low carb wraps, 13 grams total. They are sooo convenient. It is just too easy to roll up some deli ham and cheese in the morning and go. Salads can be complicated and messy.
Is it possible to have them and still keep the carbs under 20? Would that work or am I dreaming? Go ahead and let me have it. I am tough!
Oh, and where the heck is Cleo?

    rung 5 - wine -
    rung 6 - beans, hummus
    rung 7 - other fruits
rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)

Personally I dont believe in Frankenfoods.

Occasionaly I will have an endulge bar, but I dont advocate them as I feel they aren't really all they are cracked up to be.

I understand how they are so convenient, but IMHO they arent worth it.

And secondly, I dont know where cleo is either, and am getting a bit worried about her.

Depends on what the wraps are made of and what rung you are at. I would not classify most wraps as frankenfoods if you have achieved the grain rung of OWL. If you are in Induction, that is a complete another story. Convenience food isn't necessarily bad -- just read the ingredients (I am no fan of sugar alcohols or glycerin as part of net carbs) and monitor yourself afterwards for negative effects. Also do anything new in moderation - every other day to ensure you don't overdo an ok thing.

Are the 13g with the fiber subtracted? That's a lot of carbs! Very occasionally I will have a low carb tortilla. There is a brand (I think it is La Tortilla Factory?) that is chock full of fiber and whole grains. When the fiber is subtracted it is only 3-5 carbs each, depending on the size of the tortilla.

I am not sure what brand they are. I don't think it is with fiber subtracted, though, because it says 13 grams per serving on the nutrition label. Hmm, oh and Kent, I am doing induction again. I am on Day 4! Although, I might have to start over again with the use of the tortilla?
          Thanks, everybody.

you don't have to staft over just go from where you are. Save your wraps for OWL.

              Re: Any Frankenfoods Okay?????

I would use deli slices of turkey or roast beef as the wrap...then put whatever you want inside. Some grocery stores (I saw them at Trader Joe's) now carry packages of big lettuce leaves to be used as wrappers. Those are much better choices.

Since you are on Day 4, I would just get yourself back into ketosis. You can add the wraps back in at the appropriate time in OWL. Take Softnred's suggestion about the lettuce or even grape leaf wraps. During Induction you want to make sure you burn through all the glycogen stored in your muscles and blood glucose under control, and hence you want to make really sure you stick below 20g per day, which should mainly come in the form of veggies. Once you figure out your CCLL in OWL, the whole spectrum of new food options start opening up as you progress through the rungs.

Don't feel bad, when I first started I misstepped and added low carb yogurt too early too. It was only the second day, so I corrected and was fine since then.

The lettuce leaves are a good idea. I will try that. I guess I am always looking for a short cut.

                    Re: Any Frankenfoods Okay?????

The only time I spluge w/LC tortillas is when I have tacos - lettuce just doesn't hold up well when meat is hot . However, since I am induction, I've been avoiding tacos altogether because I HAVE to HAVE the tortilla....nothing else will do.

you can make cheese taco shells just cool your cheese cracker ( nuked cheese on parchemnt paper) over the edge of a plate or bowl and you get a very crunchy taco shell you can eat.
