  • G & Ts - getting into bad habits

    Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone out there can offer some pearls of wisdom.

I am enjoying the food on this WOE and cheating with food is not a problem at all. But, in the evenings, I get bad cravings for a Gin & Tonic (Sugar free) , I'm having one and it's creeping up to two now.

Did anyone else have booze cravings? I stopped drinking for over a year for hea;th reasons so I know i can do it but I'm worried that with the festive season and a birthday coming up, I'll stuff up big time and waste all my hard work.

    Help!

    Thanks,

    Felix

START A JOURANL AND WRITE DOwn everything about your eating exercise and day like whoyou wre with what you are feeling before during and after eating and drinking, what you are having were you having it cause you were hungry or bored? etc and see if you can spot a triggering event going on in your day.

your brain believes something is wrong and knows from past experience the feeling you get after a G and T makes whatever it thinks is wrong with you temperarily better which is why it prescribes them and keeps prescribing them. You need to tell Dr Brain you are geting a second opinion and then once you identify the emotion/trigger you can use a non alcohol low carb means to fix it. exercie releases lots of good feeling brain chemicals and uses up lots of bad for us chems too.

SInce you know you have quit nip this now before it becaomes an addiction again.

Instead of putting gin in, just drink the tonic.

        Felix,
I have gone thru the same thing but not with gin but with sugar. I can do the diet with no problem but I get bad sugar cravings after dinner. I have found help in fat. Eating an egg of bacon doesn't remove it but it helps. I would try finding something you can look forward to at that time. An atkins acceptable sweet. A special drink other then gin.

          Felix,
I have been guilty of doing the same thing. For me, it is a vodka and a diet 7 up. I know that it is bad for me, but it is a social thing. Also, it is a relaxing drink at the end of a long day. I also know that it stalls me, terribly. I do not think that I have a "problem" with alcohol, but I do think that it is something I have to let go, just like sugar or pasta or whatever. And it isn't easy. I still have it on occasion. Hmm, tough one.

Good for you on quitting smoking! My sister in law just did too. She is pregnant now! It is tough, I know!
