  • Atkins Quotes - Cravings

As a deterant to cheating I'm reading my DANDR and I thought I would share this:

"Let me explain something about cravings, because this point might allow you to continue with Atkins. Your craving appeared, most likely, becasue it was triggered by a drop in blood sugar. your body perceived a need to halt the falling glucose level and transmitted a signal that it needed sweets. ...Your solution, simply put, is to eat some rich food, high in fat and protein with very little or no carbohrydrate. Such a snack will stabalize your blood sugar and presto-change-o no more cravings"
page 238, Ch 19 Eating in the Real World

Dr. A goes on to suggest Macadamia nuts, Walnuts, Pecans, Brazil nuts, Whipped cream and geletin made with Splanda, and Acocado as good craving killers. Not all of these are on induction but some are!

Woo! Way to quote the good doctor, Michelle! I love it!

Just a cursory note for the newbies and those on induction, or not on rung 3: you can't eat nuts! And don't give me that look.

There is one thing we need to remember, though. Dr. A also said that we should never go more than six hours without eating. There's a good reason for this (pay attention, Cleo). As stated above, if we allow our blood glucose to drop too far below normal, we'll crave something to eat to bring it back up. Our diet, however, consists primarily of fat and protein, with a few complex carbs thrown in the mix. It takes both fat and protein far longer to raise blood sugar back to normal than it does for simple carbs. If your blood sugar is too low, you may be quite uncomfortable for too long and give in to the carb temptation. Avoiding the problem is simple -- just don't go too long between meals!

Well, Cleo, about the nuts--- To avoid induction migraine, I started with Maintenance and working my way backwards down the rungs. I wonder how many of the STACers are doing something like this?

Yeah, I am a re-newbie, but I figured I had to start somewhere. Maybe I need to check in to Boot Camp now that I'm in deep ketosis.
