No exercise for me for a few days!

  • No exercise for me for a few days!

    Yesterday afternoon, I started downstairs with a glass in one hand and a mug in the other. My steps are hardwood and I was wearing socks. When I got down to the second step from the bottom, my feet went out from under me and I fell, VERY HARD, on my back. The pain was really excrutiating. I actually thought I was going to pass out, because my vision was going black, there, for a few seconds, and I broke into a sweat all over my body.

    Eventually, I made my way back upstairs, very, very slowly, because each step was so painful. I got into bed, and pretty much had to stay there until this morning. I can now get around, slowly, and it's very much less painful, but there'll be no unnecessary exercise for a least another day or two, because I'm still very sore and stiff. Lesson learned: never go up and down the stairs in socks (especially while holding something in both hands)!

    By the way, I'm going to weigh tomorrow, one day early, because I won't get the chance to weigh again for a few weeks. I'm leaving, tomorrow afternoon, to go spend the holiday time with my folks in NC. I have a freezer stocked with legal foods that I'm taking with me -- and I promise, no matter how much anyone coaxes (even ol' Aunt Mahetebel!) that I won't give into the goodies.

    I'll still be on the board every day. Mom has wireless broadband, and I'm taking my laptop with me.

    Chris,

    I'm so sorry to hear about your slip!! That must have been so scary for you and I can't imagine the struggle you went through to get back up the stairs. I hope you will feel better before your trip!

    (Psst. Can I use you as an object lesson for my 10-year-old "I don't need to use the handrail. I'm NOT a baby!!" dd? )

      Ouch! Take it easy with your back and hope you have a speedy recovery. Santa needs to bring you some slipper socks with rubber bottoms to keep you from slipping.

          Oh Chris. Sorry to hear you had a fall. But hope you get lots of loving care when you go home for the holidays. Take it easy and get feel better! Have a great time in NC.

            Ouch!

            Yep, rubber bottomed slipper socks are in order for you! Take it easy for a few days so you dont reinjure.

              ouch. Actually moving would be better for you Chris because as you don't workout the muscles over the injury will gaurd it and contract causing you more pain and difficulty as they get damaged too.

              So some slow stretching of the area and warm up and do some light for you exercise. your body will thatnk you in a week.

                I'll give it a try, 2Big. I do bow to your expertise, and I have to admit it makes sense. I'll try to do some very light movements. Thanks!

                  Sorry to hear about the fall! I'm glad you okay though, could still have been worse. Try some EMU lotion, some people call it Blue Stuff. It works great on aching muscles.

                    The bad news is that my back pain is worse today, than yesterday. My nurse friend, Ruthi, says that that's not at all unusual. I had run out of any kind of medication, so she's bringing me some ibuprophen on her way to work this morning. Getting my laundry done and suitcase packed is going to be an interesting experience, today!

                    The good news is that I'm down two more pounds this week! I'll be honest -- I'm thrilled. Hey, I figure I deserve to have something nice happen for me!!

                    I'm not even going to try to weigh myself while I'm at my Mom's since it will be a different scale, so it will be two whole weeks until I can weigh, again. I am going to be SO good, 'cause I'm really hoping to see an even smaller number on my scale when I get back. I just hope my back pain clears quickly so I can do a bit of exercise. In spite of 2Big's advice, just getting around, a little, is about as much as I'm able to do at this point.
