It's just like me.... Things go bad and I wanna quit. Things are going well in this WOE, things are just out of whack elsewhere. I almost ate carbs today almost junked the whole thing and ate a tastycake peppermint tandy cake. I ammiserable and depressed and my way of dealing with these things is to eat... more specifically to crawl into my bed and eat....

I guess I will eat,but I won't leave my house again untilI am over this... or something because i know if i do,I will be at the nearest pepsi machine and tastycake display...arrrgtgghhh

How do yuou all deal with emotional eating?

You know, you are a beautiful person. Before picture, after picture, that isn't going to change. You have a very tough choice to make, and one that no one else will be able to make for you. Do you do something good for yourself, that could very well in the long run make you feel better about yourself, or do you stay comfortable, hidden away with the food and the things that you can be certain will make you miserable, just as they always have? You get what you've always gotten until you change what you do. This is a wonderful place, full of knowledgeable people and support. Don't worry about what tomorrow holds, work on today. Each moment as you live it is all you can control. You may not be able to win every battle, but don't think losing one means you have to give up. I'm relearning all the things I learned the first time I was here, over two years ago. I'd give anything to have not strayed.. You can do this, and you're worth it. If anyone is making you feel like you aren't, even yourself, tell it to shut up!

HUN!!! I believe you said you ALMOST ate carbs right? That means you were strong enough to come here where you KNEW you could find support to keep from doing it. Girl I SO know what you are talking about, when major stress hits, or the scales don't move for a week, or the cravings hit its h-e-l-l on wheels trying to stay committed. I have found that when I want to pack it in and cheat, the only thing that saves me is to eat some protein and FAST! I wolf down some chicken, cheese, whatever I can find. I find if my tummy has protein the bad cravings go away. I don't just stop at a couple bites either cause its my body trying to tell me its really hungry. You aren't perfect, you are human and no one expects you to be anything more than human so don't be hard on yourself. Keep on keeping on and you will get through the break down feeling. PM me if you need some extra butt kick stuff. Its easier when you have someone to talk you through it. Now lets hoist our big a$$ glasses of water in a toast to PROTEIN! Cheers!

This board along with my own willpower and drive to succeed stopped me from making a mistake I would regret for a lifetime.....This is what I want...no matter how upset i get or how depressed I get, this is what I want more than anything (well a million bucks wouldn't hurt either). I amnot going to self sabotage myself.... I did that last time and that's why I am here again in induction.I am not going to fail.... Thanks guys.....

Stress Doesn't Go Away When you are thin

What really puts it all into perspective for me is this:

Even when you're so thin you have to run around the shower to get wet you are still going to have stress. Learning to deal with it NOW is what is going to determine your long-term health and well-being for the rest of your life.

People tend to think, "ooh! When I'm thin my boss will like me, there will be no death or illness and my money problems will no longer exist." That's not planning for long-term success. That's setting us up for disappointment. Weight loss isn't meant to solve the world's problems.

I mean, even when you have a butt so tight you could bring three foreign nations together in peace and awe, there will still be 3400 other warring nations ready for bear and ready to cause you more frowny lines.

The plan is to start making life-long changes now, acknowledge there will always be stress and prepare for those times as best you can, knowing you can handle them.

              Re: feel like quitting

Believe me, I think we can all understand what you are going through. Most of us ate to comfort ourselves before we started this WOE. The important thing is that now you are aware of what you are doing and stopped yourself. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to quit. How many times I doubted that it would work and tried to talk myself out of it. I don't know what made me stick it out, but I am so glad that I did.

Make a plan for yourself on what to do the next time you are feeling out of control and want to eat. If you have a list of things to do instead of eating, it helps. Get a weight loss buddy to vent to and share your feelings. Send each other motivational tips, advice and hugs. That helped me a lot through this whole journey. I couldn't have done it without ADBB and my personal email friend.

You are worth it. Atkins works. Life is frustrating and stressful at times. Life goes on and the best way to feel in control of stressful situations is to take care of yourself and be the best YOU that you can be. Even when you lose the weight, life will still be happening, but you will be able to deal with it in a positive manner instead of losing control and eating to comfort yourself. We are all here for you. We've all been through this and can understand what you are going through. Best wishes and HUGS.

Once again thanks for all he help and insight.... I do realize all my problems will still be tehre when I get skinny, but being skinny I will have one less issue to deal with... being fat! Make sense?

I think a lot of my problems right now are based onthe fact that thanksgiving and christmas this year are the first I will be alone in 3 years..... I was alone for 22 of the 23 before that, but it didn't matter then.It matters now because it is an end.... and it hurts. I just need to get through these holidays feeling whole and I think I will be able to tackle anything that comes my way.

If I can get through this painfulholiday staying with this WOE then Iknow I will be able to continue it even further.... Again thanks for EVERYONES help

                  Re: feel like quitting

Anlhess, you can do this WOE! It does get hard sometimes for all of us. You have shown your control of yourself in not giving into tempation for the tasty cakes! Remember how good it felt to win over that temptation the next time you are tempted. Lots of us have to deal with emotional eating. It is a constant battle that we have to always be on guard for. Unfortunately, there are no quick and easy answers to this. It has taken us years to develop the dependence on eating when parts of our lives feel out of control and it will take some time for us to change that. That is one reason why we have to plan ahead for any of life's situations that could cause us to eat the wrong things. That way we don't have to depend on our emotions to decide what to eat, we decided and planned for that ahead of time!!!

Also, one way to make the holidays better for you is to give of yourself during this time. It doesn't take money, just some of your time, love and caring. Visit a nursing home over the holidays and just stop and talk to some of the residence. Ask them what things were like when they were younger! You will leave there having found the real holiday season; helping others! Doing some sort of volunteering to help others (older adults, children, homeless, etc.) can make your holiday so much brighter!

You can do this and you are showing it!

                    Re: feel like quitting

I feel for ya. We all go through this I think. None of us are here because, oops, now how did I get fat suddenly? We all have issues, but as the others have said, it's all in how you deal with them. What I find has really been helping me at this time is exercise. You don't even have to go to the gym and do a 2 hour workout. Dance around to your favourite music, or put on a video and just get moving. You'll pack yourself with feel-good endorphins and getting your body stronger also helps make the rest of you feel stronger inside. I do my regular exercising, but when I need a little extra help I just do a little extra exercising. Hang in there. We know you can do it.

Hey Anlhess! Hang in there -- I've had a rotten week -- super up and super down emotionally -- on top of wanting to eat carbs, I actually wanted to smoke a cigarette..............yikes...................I'v e been trying to grab my dogs and go for a brisk walk around the block when I'm struggling.........and repeating "this too shall pass this too shall pass...." helps me too.................

Also -- why don't you add your "pounds lost" on your ticker bar in your signature -- it helps me to focus on the positive of how far I've come instead of how far I still need to go.....

just some thoughts....you're definitely not alone!

Anlhess, I know you can do this! At the beginning of this woe especially, thoughts go through probably everyone's heads about quitting and cheating and giving up. I know it happened to me. But IT DOES GET EASIER! Emotional eating is like being addicted to drugs or alcohol, and it can be just as hard to stop as it is to quit drinking if you're an alcoholic or doing drugs if you're a drug addict. Just take it one day at a time, and remember: you can't do this for anyone but you!

My thoughts are with you, hun, because I, like many people on this board, know how you're feeling firsthand!
