  • Candy Commercials

So there's this local candy company called Michael Mootz. I have had their chocolate before and it is petty good, but why do they insist on starting out their commercial by saying Noholiday is complete without chocolate. C'mon now.... thta's just baiting me to go buy chocolate because they then o on o talk about all the different kinds of chocolate and confections they have....

Why is it generally believedthat you need chocolate to have a holiday. My aunt said to me today " I can't believe you are doing a diet when i just bought all this Christmas candy for my house" What does MY WOE have to do with her Xmas candy???? Just becuase she bought it doesn't meann I need to eat it. It's almost like she is offended that I am not eating the candy.

Oh and she wants to make peanut butter cookies and welch cookies and things and is mad at me for not coming over to help her bake. If I were positive that my willpower were enough to stop me from eating the kisses off the center of the peanut butter cookies,I would go help. However I don't know that I am that strong yet. Why don't people understand what I am doing is making myself healthier and all they are tying to do is sabotage that. ANd trust me, MY aunt could afford top take on this WOE herself, but she won't. I have asked her to so we could be support for each other, but she won't even consider reading the book to see what it's about.....

Oh wellNow that I went off the candy company rant onto something else I thinkI'll let it go!~!!! HHAHAHA Hope everyone is having a GREAT day

I'm sorry your aunt isn't being more supportive! When I first started Atkins I got such a negative response from so many people - at one point some friends had practically an intervention, saying I was going to suffer from malnutrition (nevermind that I was eating healthier, with more vegetables, than I ever had before!) and my roommate even said she couldn't wait til I quit so she could laugh at me about it!

I think people get comfortable with a certain image of you and the role you play in their life, ie. if you're the funny fat friend, or the shy chubby neice, or whatever they think you are, and when you work to change that they panic a bit. I tried not to let the negativity discourage me, looked for reassurance from people who were on the same path as I was, and reminded myself what I was working towards - a healthier, happier me!

I think people get jealous when they see you trying to do something for yourself and see it working!

Yup. So if you're heavy and start scarfing down the twinkies they don't say a word but as soon as you pass on the twinkies they are up in arms, gasping and fainting. Ummmm, I think that's their issue, not yours. Stay strong and do what you know is right for you.

Absolutely, jealously can be a huge part of it too!

It's like when you offer your seat to an older person on the bus. If there are other older people standing then the other sittees start glaring at you because now you've started this thing where people have to give up their seats in order to do the right thing. As long as you are joining in with the pigging out then they can continue. You start eating healthy and they're all like "whoa, now what's going on? Does that mean I can't eat this? Well, I know I shouldn't eat this....but.." You start them thinking. No one likes change and by giving up the chocolate you are rocking the boat, sistah! Give them time.

Rant all ya want. There is always going to be someone that frustrates us with our chosen woe.

In time most of them usually come around once they see your success.
