    Who knew sugar could make me feel so bad. I went for the first of my twice weekly plasma donations today and it wasmoving really slow. I amusually a quick donor, but today it was taking forever. After a while right before I was done I started getting the cold sweats and naseous and I almost passed out. Weird, this has never happened before.

    Anyway after a bit of them copoling medown and revivoing me back to normal which involved purging some stuff frommy body to make me feel betetr I really did feel fine and I was ready to go.

    They however weren't ready for me to go,they made me lay there for a bit and they MADE me, even after I told them I was on atkins, drink a little box of juicy juice. 24 grams of carbs and 21 grams of sugar...

    So i leave there and go to the grocery store where I start feeling yucky again only this time i start shaking real bad and stuff. AS I said i felt fine and then they made me drink the stuff.

    Could the sugar be causing this second yucky feeling in me? I got almost an instant heache when i drank it , now i am feeling naseous again and really crappy......

      My husband is the same way when he donates blood. Some people pass out! Mine goes all woozy. *l* {{{anlhess}}}

      Take your own snacks along and don't let them feed you that line of crap about bloodsugar next time. The nerve of those people. I can't believe they did that to you.

        yes the drinking of thr sugar spiked your blood sugar evoking an all out insulin response and poof you had issues.

        take a snack with you next time and for the rest of today you need to replace the fluids you lost not the sugar you didn't have. Watch for some cravings too. I hope you have eatten a meal by now too.

        I'm a regular donor and have never had any issues while on Atkins since I arrive with my water and my snacks just incase.

          I also donate blood when we have a blood drive right here at work. Thankfully they don't force me to eat/drink the stuff they put out. I come with my water and I make sure I have something legal before I leave home in the morning. That seems to be working fine as I've never had a problem.

          And, yes it was the sugar that made you feel like that...happened to me once and it was awful!

            I also go prepared with my water bottle and a small slice of flax bread. The first time they gave me a bit of grief, but now they leave me alone. lol

            Yay to you for giving blood!!!

              Re: Oh My Goodness

              Okay I am donationg plasma not blood and the process is a little bit different. Donating plasma takes about an hour becuas they cycle the blood out of your body, seperate your plasma fromyour RBC's and then send the RBC's back into your body. AT the end of the process you recieve a 500mL bag of saline to satrt the replacement process of the plasma. It replaces itself in 24-48 hours which is why you can donate twice in a 7 day period.

              I have been donating since 2001 and only had this problem once before on my very first donation. And I remember then that they gave me juice and crackers (not a normal practice when donating plasma.) I guess they just didn't understand what the sugar would do to me since I didn't have any inmy system. If it ever happens again I will refuse and ask them to give me water if they want me to drink something.

              Right now I am feeling a bit better, still a little woozy, but not nearly as nauseous as earlier. I am gulping down the water hoping to flush the nasties out of my body. I ahve a goal to make dangit and this sugar thing isn't gonna stop me from getting there. No siree bob!!!

              Anyway thanks all for your comments.I figured it was the sugar but wasn't sure

                  Cleo... it really sucks... I absolutely hated the feeling today I really was about to pass out. My eyes were rolling backin my head and they kept having to say my name and shakle me to keep me frompassing out. A very new feeling for me. Donations are usually problem free,so I feel for your DH if he gets woozy every time....
