Merry X-Mas All!
Just wanted to let everyone know how great it is to be back and to thank everyone for providing such a warm and uplifting environment where this sometimes daunting and disheartening battle against weight loss is made so much easier. I'm so excited to be joining all of you again, and I have to say that I am so proud of the progress so many of you have made. I haven't visited the board in several months and was so inspired to see some of the new pictures that have been posted. Wow and congratulations.
Unfortunately, I fell off the wagon several months ago, and because I wasn't gaining weight, I was convinced carbs were my buddies again.
Needless to say....I was wrong.
So here I am, tired all the time, drinking 3 cans of pop a day and feeling like well...crap. I miss how much energy I had and how great it felt to wake up each morning knowing I was coming closer and closer to my goal weight. It's time to make a change. (again)
What had really inspired me to get back on Atkins is the fact that after almost 6 years, I FINALLY QUIT SMOKING. I was lucky enough to quit during a two-week period where I was sick with bronchitis and could not smoke, after which I didn't really have cravings. I'm so proud of myself and winning this battle has really made me dust off that "To-Do" list and take a crack at number 2 which has always been "lose the weight".
This time around, I am facing some odd cirsumstances, however.
(BTW--sorry to be writing a novel here, folks)
I've started a job at a snow plowing company in Chicago as a supervisor and dispatcher during the winter months. This means that during snow storms or "ice events", as we call them, I am forced to put in 30 hour shifts, and sometimes have to nap at work. During a past ongoing blizzard, I was at the office for almost 80 hours during the course of 4 days!
The problem is that I'm very dependent on caffeine during storms and don't know how to make this work with Atkins. Should I drink the coffee and use Splenda? Is sugar-free Red-Bull an option? Should I just invest in some speed??? (--kidding, kidding)
I'm at a loss because while I try to drink water and munch on cheese cubes and pepperoni, my colleagues are ordering pizza, Chinese food, and gulping down Starbucks frappucinos. I feel left out of the commeraderie associated with these post-storm foodfests because it's just too hard to be in the same room with a bunch of people laughing and joking with one another about work-related stuff while stuffing their faces with food I can't have.
I have been in tempting situations before, but after working for so long and being so sleep-deprived that I'm practically hallucinating sticking to this WOL gets pretty difficult. However, I am determined to make it work somehow, because as I've learned before-the benfits outweigh those tough and uncomfortable moments. I just need some advice as to what allowable foods and drinks will provide me with the energy boost I need while at work.
Thanks so much for your help and I wish everyone the best!
