Well, I must say I am impressed with myself. Last night we went to a family dinner where chicken parm was going to be served. My mother, being so sweet, called and asked if they could just serve me the chicken and cheese without the breading. Only, she forgot to tell them that I couldn't have pasta! So they serve me a heaping plate of pasta with a chicken breast on top, and spaghetti sauce on top. I ate only the chicken, and passed on the desserts.
Today I went to my mothers house. I resisted the temptation to give in to her christmas cookies (we call them crackies because once you've had one, you'll eat them all...) For dinner I had ham and turkey with a little bit of that green bean stuff with the cream of mushroom soup and the browned up onions on top. While everybody else was having canolis for desert, I helped myself to a couple of pieces of extra sharp chedder.
Now, here's what I noticed at both functions. First, EVERYONE else got up and ate second plates, even though they had sooo much more on their plates to begin with (hot buns, potatoes, cranberry sauce, stuffing, etc...)! I was stuffed after about 2/3 the way through my first plate. NO WAY could I get a second helping. Second, everybody else pretty much fell asleep after eating and saying "Oompf, I'm sooo stuffed". I had so much energy I was bouncing off the walls. I kept the conversation going the rest of the time.
It was very interesting to watch the effect a high carb meal had on everybody else.
