  • Ouch!

DO YOU HAVE THE TIME TO LISTEN TO ME WHINE!!!!!??????

I usually am so positive that this may surprise some of you.

I am really struggling. Not with food. With my mind.

I limped past all the cookies and pasta and pizza this holiday with no problem. The operative word there is LIMP.

I wiped out hard on the ice the day after Thanksgiving and messed my knee up BADLY. It is breaking my heart to be in pain like this, mainly because for a GLORIOUS month and a half after cortisone injections, I experienced a pain free life. I could walk on a treadmill and do an eliptyical and dance in my show and kneel down on one knee....Things I hadn't done in YEARS. I completely embraced this new life and now I just feel like it was just a teaser.

I did go back to the doctor who initally gave me the cortisone shots and he gave me a booster. This was December 1st. It is getting better, but not fast enough and I keep hoping it will go back to the way it was before I fell. I have days or parts of days with no pain, and then it turns into agony, like overnight.

I do have an option. Total Knee replacement. Yeah...
But the doc won't do it until I lose weight.

I am feeling stuck physically. I keep asking the pity party question "Why Me??"
I try to think of the fact that it could have been worse..I could have BROKEN my knee.

I believe in healing and I also believe that attitude and spiritual feelings have EVERYTHING to do with weight loss for me. I believe that this darkness and sadness is a weight gain for my spirit and it is a huge burden.

    SO.......Basically, this sucks!

    Frustrated as HADES!

    In need of kind words

    Re: Ouch!

I feel your frustration and know how tough making yourself do it can be with knees like that.if your doc doesn't have you on any pain mamagement program speak with him cause cortisone in the short run can have major long run consequences for your bones and organs.Since I have allergic reactions to many of the meds I just take 2 asprin before a workout and it seems to help alot with the pain then and later.

I too have knees that docs have told me need to be replaced and know the pain you speak of. I know there are days when dragging myself onto the treadmill is the l;ast thing my knees want especially if it is cold and wet outside and my body actually talks to itself as I slowly start the treadmill. the knees are screaming the brain feels compasion for them and sometimes those darn fingers do too and they actually turn off the machine or lower the speed and I am shocked they did that and make thm put it back. I make deals with them just go 5 mins and then you can stop. Oh look almost finished this mile lets keep going and finsih it ( lucky for my the human body actually feels the need to complet things and the knees get over ruled). Hey only 5 more min and we will have that minimum number of min to count this as a cardio session you can make it! As the knees warm up (yep I wear my seats on the treadmil just to help my knees and the joints loosen up) I can actually feel them getting happier and I can finsih the whole workout walk, but then after i stop and go stand, drinking water they stiffen back up and are like a little kid at the store when they told you before you went they didn't want to go. They start screaming at me look what you made me do and now I don't feel good. The ice packs help quiet them down, but I know when I have to go upstairs they will start again and I seriously wonder if I should just stop but then I see that 300+ pounder I've been running from plastered on the wall and know those knees can either shut up and enjoy the workout or be misrible cause they are going to do it.

You know you want to get through this time and exercise is the only way to becoame that healtheir smaller you for the surgery when you are ready to have it. Maybe you could switch up your exercise and see it their is a heated pool in a therapy center nearby. If so your doc can prescribe swimming or water aerobics for your knees and your insurance can cover it.

      Re: Ouch!

i am going to try to start swimming again, and doing this light Yoga-like stuff again. There is a warm pool I can go to on Sundays, but obviously not last Sunday or this one.

Maybe once I get moving again I will feel happier.

Thanks 2Big. I think you know where I am coming from.

        Re: Ouch!

Sharon, I certainly can't offer you any medical advice on this one, but please know that I do care, and I'm hoping that the knee problem improves, real soon. I can just imagine how frustrating it must be for you.

        Take care of you!

          Re: Ouch!

I have horrible arthritis in one foot and walking nearly kills me, so my exercise of choice has been water arobics. I also have been doing some weight training. What ever you do, go slow.
