  • Easier this time around.

I did well on Atkins 4 years ago, then when I reached my goal I quit the regimen and just keep an eye on the carbs I ate. This actually worked pretty well for a couple of years, then I decided that a couple bites of a potato that came with the steak couldn’t hurt much (it did) and while I don’t crave sweets, I’d try a little bit of the cake or pie. I really could quit at a bite or 2.

Ya know thinking back I really torpedoed my wife (sorry babe). We would go out to eat, she would stop when she was starting to get full. The waitress would ask if we wanted dessert, she would say no and I’d order a piece of pie. I’d take a bite, maybe 2 and push it away knowing full well that she wouldn’t be able to let it go to waste. At the time we would laugh about it and I sort of felt that she wouldn’t order what she wanted so I would do her a favor and order it and leave most of it for her. Now that I think about I wasn’t doing her any favors at all.

Anyway in a couple of more years here I am.

I’m finding Atkins easier this time around. First time I felt I could eat unlimited amounts of meats, and I did. It took me quite a while to realize that I was eating because I could and not because I even wanted it. I remember when the realization hit, I cut my consumption by about a third.

I expected the headaches this time. Know about my favorite crutch – Ketostix. Anytime I need encouragement I use a Stix and remind myself that Atkins is working for me and I’m burning the weight off.

I learned about these types of support boards (this board is great!!).

So I’ve got my first week behind me, and while it wasn’t perfect it was close. I think that I’m signed up for boot camp, either way I’m back and I will get induction right.

    Later
    Gary

Hello and welcome. I restarted the same day as you did and I'm finding it much easier this time around, too. I think a little bit of previous experience at anything is always a big help. Congratulations for coming back.

Welcome, Gary! You've certainly come to the right place -- you'll find no better support anywhere else on the web.

We're glad you made the decision to restart, and we're glad you decided to do it with us!

Good for you! I'm glad you made the decision to come back to it.

My first time in '03 was good.. easy even. Then I fell off track when pb&j and oodles of noodles were all we could afford. I tried several times to restart and would never make it that long. This time is different. I am super motivated and committed. You sound committed too. Yay us!

                  Re: Easier this time around.

                  Thanx all,

No my wife isn't an Atkins fan. She doesn't eat much meat and almost no fish. I do most of the cooking, so it's easy to add what she likes to the meals.

As for the insight - it came to me while I was writing the post. I called her at work and apologized. We talked about it last night and she's already forgave me, but appreicated the apology anyway.

                  Live and learn.
