  • What happened to Pork Rinds?

In the “old days” pork rinds were a staple. Reading my DANDR I’m not finding them mentioned, at least not in what I’ve read so far.

The packages I’ve read show 0 carbs. Are they still acceptable for induction?

They are acceptable for induction. Yes, I remember the earlier versions of Dr. A's books, and he made a big deal about pork rinds. I use them from time to time to take advantage of legal dips for which others are using crackers.

If you've never tried it, be sure to try the faux French toast, which is made with pork rinds. You'd never believe it, but it's delicious!

Be careful...pork rinds are exceptionally high in calories. A small handful a day won't hurt, but if you eat a small bag in one sitting, read the label! Usually they have 80 calories per HALF cup. A handful is probably about a cup.

I love pork rinds too, but they are high in calories and sodium. Drink lots of water to flush away that extra salt.

actually D Atkins says a few pork rinds when he mentions them in DANDR and he told the DUKE docs running the induction study 1 cup was the limit per day.

The best pork rinds are those that you fry yourself. Whenever we go to Branson, MO, we go to Silver Dollar City to buy a huge bag of pork rinds (not cooked). You can watch the "old timer" fry them up in a huge kettle. They are absolutely delicious! Seriously!!! The manufactured variety with added preservatives, ect, are NOTHING to those you cook yourself. Just my opinion.

I wish they'd make them without all that sodium personally - I find them WAY too salty, which is why I can't make the french toast out of them. I feel like i'm eating a salt shaker that has cinnamon on it. ;-P I can eat them plain though, but still, very salty.

I can't stand them either! I keep trying, though. I want to like them because I like my dips so much. I keep buying them and they go stale. Six months later I try them again. Still yucky, to me. I wish they could make them shaped differently. More flat, like a chip.

I hate them. They give that pork taste to whatever you put them on. I can't understand why people use them so much!
