  • Apple Cider Vinegar

Question for the experts or anyone who can help.

Everyday on my salads, I have made my salad dressing with bottled lemon or lime juice and extra virgin olive oil.

I had a bottle of apple cider vinegar and didn't really know what to do with it. The last 2 days I have been putting it on my salad instead of the lemon/lime juice. Is this ok? I bought it from Wild Oats (health food store) when I started my fight with Candida.

I don't particularly care for the taste, although it's tolerable. I just hate vinegar and that's why I could never tolerate the fat free dressings. They tasted too vinegar-y.

Anyway, is it ok to use apple cider vinegar on my salads?

    Thanks in advance!

Yes, by all means, the vinegar is fine.

Ya know...I always thought that any vinegar was fine EXCEPT for apple cider vinegar. And durn it...my fiancee has my DANDR and he's several states away right now, so I can't double check.

Does anyone remember if apple cider vinegar is the exception?? I have red wine vinegar in my cabinet that I use occasionally...

          Re: Apple Cider Vinegar

I wasn't really sure. I knew as long as it was the unfiltered, unsweetened, etc. totally natural, it was ok for people doing the program for Candida. I just didn't know if it was ok for everyday use.

I do need to dig out my DANDR again. It got buried somewhere during the holidays

            Pg 374 DANDR (2002)

            "Oils and Vinegars

Vinegars vary in carbohydrates (1 to 3 grams per tablespoon), but since the amount you'll use is small, the difference is not that important. Avoid balsamic vinegar, which contains sugar. Aside from being a main ingredient in salad dressings, vinegar is also a great addition to many soups and even stir-fries (a splash added at the end of cooking really brightens up the flavors)."

Basalmic! Balsamic!!! I KNEW there was one type of vinegar to avoid...I'd just gotten confused as to which one. My apologies to Debbie and Chris for sticking my nose in!!

Gary, that is correct. As much as I LOVE balsamic, it's history.

                  Re: Apple Cider Vinegar

applecider vinegar for the candia stuff has the microorganism still in there too so you are getting an added boost from using it but we still just as with all legal stuff have to count those carbs.

Have you tried a hot bacon cider dressing to mask the flavor of the vinegar? smells awful as you cook it but it tastes much better.

                    Hi 2Big!!!

No, I have not tried a hot bacon cider dressing. It sure sounds a lot tastier than the vinegar! Do we have the recipe in the recipe section? I know the vinegar has carbs and I'm not going over my daily carb limit (according to fitday anyway). The bottle of apple cider vinegar does not have any nutritional information so I don't know exactly how many carbs or anything it has.
