  • Hi. I'm new.

Hi. I'm trying to get myself back onto the induction stage of Atkins. I have been on Atkins for about 5yrs. I lost 25 lbs. That was OK. I would have liked to have lost an additional but I didn't. I'm trying to figure out when I started slipping on my resolve. I think it was last summer. I know for sure I nibbled alot during the holidays. Before that I could sample something that was high carb & that would be enough but after a while I couldn't resist. I have a hard time staying away from salted almonds, low carb ice cream, low carb candy and Trident gum. I figure if I could stop eating those things I would loose the 10 pounds I've put on. I'm having a hard time doing that though. I don't know what will trigger my mind so that I go back on induction. Any ideas?

    Re: Hi. I'm new.

I just started again as well. I did Atkins about 5 years ago; I did well but didn't stick with it, and regained all I'd lost PLUS! Now I'm back for more. My trigger was splitting the seams of 2 pairs of shorts recently. And seeing some holiday photos of myself. UGH!! It was actually my New Year's resolution, but it took me a few extra weeks to get into the right frame of mind.

Maybe if you focus on all the many positive aspects of weight loss, you'll get your mind in the right place to get back on induction.

Thanks everyone. It's nice to know there's a place like this. So, BTW, you caught my play on words. Today I feel more positive, except I want to chew my gum & I did have a few almonds. I did have eggs & bacon and I am drinking water. After reading more tips I think that helped me too. Somehow though I need to stop the almonds & the gum.

                  Re: Hi. I'm new.

I started again a week ago.. again for about the third time...

As of yet no induction flu and I am kinda dissapointed cos I know it means that I have reached the level of cutting through the reserves...plus I haven't lost a pound and I am so tired.

Tiredness is why I came back.. I was so sleepy all the time which is a side effect of carbo overload... good thing is I haven't gained a thing in all that time (12 months ) that I have been away... I must have been unknowingly on OWL.

Anyway it is good to see a few new starters like me and even better to see the beautiful 2big still here...yay

                    Re: Hi. I'm new.

I'm sooooo with you about wanting things that are ok in small amounts but bad in large amounts.

Like almonds, or really any nuts. I can't have them because i can't stop, I want them! want them! want them!. I may have a few salad sliced almonds on an extremely rare ocasion on a salad---DH has I bag put up but I haven't touched them

I can eat a whole pack of SF gum in a day, large size or more...stopped buying it at all

I can drink 6 or more diet sodas a day---stopped buying them at all now buy a flat of bottled water..amazing I will drink water alot more when I'm not drinking all that diet soda

Low carb ice cream is a difficult one for me..I buy the small sized ones that are expensive that way I'm less likely to eat too much, I want to make it last--- I just love ice cream so at times when I am feeling especially weak I have thrown it away and banned it from the house. In fact I think I want ice cream right now, but I am not going to eat any tonight.

Atkins bars, low carb chocolates especialy toffee bars, bowl muffins, low carb zuccini bread .....all items that make me want them more and more so I use the ABSTINENCE rule...and don't get started, don't buy it, throw it away and avoid them like a plague.
