  • I've Been Here Before

    This is not my first attempt at Atkins. I love the program, I love the way it makes me feel and, as a diabetic, what it does for my health. My problem is that I love food (I'm going to be honest here) and I seem to place that pleasure above the joy of being healthy. So, I go off the diet. I originally went on the diet in April 2005 and lost 12 pounds and gained it back. I'm restarting tomorrow (today being Valentine's day and chocolate and all, but I am only eating sugar free in moderation, with one net carb). This will be the last time. I am committed to it. Here's what I would like from you all. I would like two things. The first is advice or words of wisdom regarding not letting the taste of carbs control me. The second is for anyone who is interested, to PM me and let me know you'd like to be my weight-loss buddy. Someone, rather than a board, to whom I can be accountable and from whom I can get advice, and I'd like for it to be someone with a similar amount of weight to lose. I have to lose 125 for sure, probably more like 150. My final goal will be somewhere between 125 and 150, but I'll have to get closer to that to decide for sure where. Thanks to all of you in advance and I hope to get to know all of you well!

    Welcome back to the wagon Renee.

    Words of wisdom... dont look at the big picture, its scarey! This is my first time on Atkins (and my last by gosh!) and I set a mini-goal. Told myself that I woudl do induction for 2 weeks and if I felt like crap or thought I was going to die, Id stop. With that I said if I lost 10 pounds, Id get a pedicure. Yes its february in the midwest and theres snow on the ground but by golly, I love to see my toes painted! Im going to get that pedicure on saturday. take it one step at a time. give yourself something small to aim for. be it a goal ofbeing cheat free for a certain number of days, working out X number ofminutes per day for a week, or an amount lost in inches or weight.
    Measure yourself!!!! there were days I was going to lose it because my weight fluctuates. that tape measure doesnt lie though when the scale does. I feel great knowing my inches lost. that means more to me then the # on the scale.

    I Made it!!!! TWICE!!!! (10/06 and 1/07!!!)

      Hey Reneew, Welcome Ya know how I am looking at this new way of life for me. Well first of all its an addiction for me because I also enjoy my food. Taste, texture, sensations, etc... I know what its like to be addicted as i am also an alcoholic (have not mentioned that to anyone yet here) and I've been clean for 4 yrs. I am trying to live Atkins like I have to live my daily life. I am strictly keeping to the allowed foods list, drinking more and more water, and I'm coming here for support (much like I go to meetings during my week) I have to be this way with Atkins because I know me and how I can let a craving take my life away again. I did get cravings in the first few days. I did not follow the allowed foods list completely until day 4. But now, because I am doing these things, I have a copy of the book and I'm reading it and applying it to my life, I'm losing, I'm feeling better, and I'm getting healthier. You can do it too. Just stick with it and keep coming here.
