  • I saw it on TV, must be true...

    Hey gang,
I was thinking about you all this morning. I got up unusually early... long story, something to do with dh set the alarm and then forgot and i had to find it, turn if off, etc... BUT, I was able to sit in front of the tube and channel surf while I had my first cup of (ahem) decaf. The only thing on t.v. (besides paid programming) was a show on Discovery called "I Lost It". Has anyone seen this?

It was my first time watching it and this wonderful lady has lost 120 pounds over the past year and has kept it off. So, I am really impressed by her and I waiting for the inevitable..."She just decided to exercise and eat right"...but no, she came right out and said how Atkins was working for her and she loved this way of eating and ate six meals a day... etc...

Wow, some validation. This is what we already know. We know this works, don't we?

Here is my latest thought. I spent the past month straying from my WOE. I did this because of a difficult time in my life that made it extremently hard to perpare foods, etc... I decided that I would just try to watch what I eat (calorie wise) so that I wouldn't gain too much back. Well, of course, I did gain and I am back on induction, day three!

BUT, in my rambling way I wanted to tell you that if we choose NOT to eat atkins, we have to choose to gain weight or we can choose the low calorie diet. I know that we tend to think that we can watch our calories (weight watchers anyone) and be able to eat the pasta and pizza, right? That is so wrong. When you are on WW or any other similar plan you have to eat baked potato plain, side salad with little dressing and on the side, no cheese and maybe a pickle, if you don't over do it. NO THANKS!!

Don't forget...if you decide to binge, you are not going to lost weight. You will GAIN! You are making a decision to GAIN! That is just the harsh and sad reality of it.

Give me my chef salad with ranch dressing any day.

You mean they mentioned the A word on TV without a disclaimer that it would damage your health? OMG!

I agree with your thoughts, good post.

I watch that show pretty much relgiously on the days I am home.I have seen them talk about Atkins quite a few times. They will tell the story of the individual then towards the end of the story they tell how the person lost weight. They have had everything from gastric bypass to weight watchers to Atkins. It is actually a very motivational show I think. It comes on discovery health weekdays at 11 am eastern.

These goals maybe pushing it but I am gonna give it my all.

Pretty cool. It was the first time I had seen it. I was so impressed that they would mention atkins in such a positive way. I am glad to hear that it isn't the first time they have done that. For awhile the atkins way of eating was all the craze...what happened?? My personal thought is that too many people were doing it incorrectly (frakenfoods...) that they didn't lose weight.

              Anyone have any thoughts??

Re: I saw it on TV, must be true...

I have found that many people doing Atkins tend to keep it hush-hush because of all the bad press...I speak up and then find that other people I know are doing it, they just don't want to be criticized for it. However, I have had many negative comments. It is discouraging but I remember how I lost 40 pounds on Atkins last time, then immediately got pregnant, so I know it works. (Just that this time is way slower.) One really big encouragement is that I am a senior in college, going to be an RN, and many of my instructors have been or are on Atkins and support it with enthusiasm. These are women with PhD's in the science of nursing-so if anyone would know how really healthy it is, it's these ladies. Of particular inspiration to me is my Peds instructor, who has 10 children and lost over 100 pounds on Atkins and has maintained for almost 3 years. I say if she can do it, so can I!! I am trying very hard to make this a lifestyle and not an effort at a quick-fix.

Re: I saw it on TV, must be true...

That is so awesome to hear! I come from a family of health nuts/ vegetarians and sometimes I feel like they don't get it. They are open minded and to be fair, extremely supportive, but sometimes... I get that look. YOu know the one, oh red meat for dinner, oh, you can't have a smoothie. That type of thing, but then they are seeing results and they have seen it once before.

My thing is that I believe that this is an unhealthy diet, if you yo-yo it. You can't have bacon and eggs for breakfast and steak salad for lunch if you turn around have a "low calorie" weight watcher pasta dinner. That won't work. That is the unhealthiness of it, I believe.
