  • Need your help

I know this is such a boring topic but I need your help.

As many of you know, any kind of social event seems to involve tempting, non Atkins food. Well, at least most social occasions I attend do. I avoided many of these occasions for a long time because I knew I was weak, but can't do it anymore unless I become a hermit.

So far, I have not indulged, but it is hard for me, even if I am now on OWL and have more choices. I want to taste some of those things (sushi, cheesecake, fried (fill in the blank), breads, but if I do, I know that is death to me.

What do you guys do when your favorite ex-treats at the party or event call your name? Thank you for your suggestions ADBB!

    Re: Need your help

Just eat before you go. For example during this year's super bowl I had chips, salsa, pizzas, brownies, roast beef subs, etc all in front of me during the entire game. I didn't really give it a second thought though cuz my belly was full of delcious hot wings

I find that I can have ANYTHING in front of me as long as i'm not actually hungry. This is why I hate mexican restaurants that bring out the chips & salsa BEFORE the meal cuz then I do get weak and eat a few.

    Hope that helps.

call and ask if you can bring some food. then take stuff you like that is legal for your phase. you can have riceless suchi it has a different name though and you can take a perfectly legal cheese cake you made yourself see our recipe section

hot wings are another thing you could take and youo can always take veggie platters. then remember youa re there to share the friendship and love you have with those folk not the food. happy low carbing.

I agree, bring your most favorite atkins friendly foods. Save your favorites or try a new recipe to bring. Maybe even something really complicated to make, a recipe that you are really looking forward to. Plus, I agree again that it is so important to eat before hand. Plus, I went through this awhile ago and posted the same question. Someone suggested that I let the hostess know. I was so hesitant to do this, but I am sure glad that I did. Instead of chips, there were veggies for dipping and tons and tons of dip. Cold cut platters and cheeses. Yummy.

Thank you RB, 2big and Shannon, I appreciate your responses, very much. I always eat before I go out. The thing is, most of my social events are not places where I can bring my own dishes.

          Thank you!

Well, that stinks. I hate events like that. I have a work lunch on Monday. They are bringing us "brown bag" lunches. I just knooow that there will be a sandwich, chips, and a fruit of some sort. I just know it! So, I think I am going to eat before I go so I won't be tempted by anything. Of course, it will seem rude, but I can pick at the inside of my sandwich and pretend a little, then trash it early on. I know that I can't go HUNGRY!

              Re: Need your help

I know this is not really an easy stratagy but I pretend like I am deathly allergic to something in those things I really love...like a girl at work always makes these awsome ooowy, gooey chocolate bunt cake things with choclate and AKKK. I just say to myself and to others NO Not one bite, if I have even one tiny nibble that will be the end of me. people will say Oh just have a teeny tiny bite...I say no I can't just have a teeny tiny bite...it causes a reaction in me...swelling..LOL Of my hips and backside.

My mom is allegic to MSG and she would never take a bite of something that would cause a reaction and I try to remember I have a reaction to sugar, starches and grains...CRAVINGS like you wouldn't believe.

I also try to keep myself away from the area where the cake is sitting so that I don't sit there smelling it and thinking about it.....And I eat something legal...when hungry, tired and stressed and at my worst to resist temptation.

George Stella, has a great low carb cheesecake recipe on foodnetwork.com. Just make sure you take it somewhere to share, because too much of even a good thing can mess you up. It tastes great, even our friends not on Atkins like it a lot!
