  • Fatty Liver Stuff

Hi beautiful people! I am trying to get here as much as I used to but with wedding season in full swing and the Maui trip coming up, my time is not my own these days. My apologies for being one darn poor correspondant, I miss everyone here so much when I'm away.

Well for those of you who knew from before that I was diagnosed with a fatty liver months ago, a wee update...I am still working out on the treadmill like a dawg every day for an hour. I am watching my body shrink while my scale refuses to move into Onederland but I can see and feel the difference so pppffft. What-EVAH!

A friend of mine who previously had a liver condition showed me her books called The Liver Cleansing Diet and Raw Juices Can Save Your Life. I read them and took them to my doc who is thrilled with the almost 50 pounds I've lost in the past year. She wants me to start this 8 week liver cleansing diet. I am all for it (after Maui heh heh) but there are a few things that disturb me, It involves alot of raw veggie juicing and eating fresh fruits and grains (breads) accccckkkkkkkkkkkk! I almost ran screaming from the room. I read that you don't HAVE to use fruits, you can use vegs (whew) but I am concerned about the grains and stuff too. 2 weeks into the diet you are cut off of ALL meat for 4 weeks, the 2 weeks prior to that, the only meat you can eat is free range chicken and eggs (and in moderation) no butter, nada! I want to do this as I have seen the results firsthand. I am on Livatone Plus as well also formulated by Dr Cabot and it contains all kinds of good stuff, milk thistle included of course as well as green tea leaf extract, taurine, broccoli powder, L-Cysteine HCI, L-Glutamine, and loads of vitamins (no iron that I can see) I still take my Atkins Basic 3 vitamins and my Atkins essential oils too.

I wanted to know if any of you have ever done this cleanse, your results, and some opinions on the transition period food wise for me from both those who might have done the cleanse, and those who just have an opinion to share. Here is the link to the site for more info http://www.liverdoctor.com/

Other than that, life is good and I am looking forward to Hawaii, thanks for everyones PM's while I was gone. I always look forward to being back here at home!

In your state I would say do what the doctor says, all of us are powerful and you can pick up where you left off with this diet and do just fine! We have to remember this diet isn't JUST about losing weight is about overall health...so you put that first...whatever you have to do to help yourself get healthy!

Star, I have never tried the liver diet, so I couldn't advise you at all. I would be worried about it throwing me into craving mode if you know what I mean. Even veggie juice could do that cause the carbs would be so high and the fiber so low.
Did you discuss that with your doctor?
Move up to the grain level and see how you do first and then if you feel yourself going out of control, discuss it with your doctor
Its snowing out right now and Hawaii sounds sooooooooooo good. I am jealous

I think I am going to start juicing (vegs only) once a day rather, only vegs that I can have like spinach, cabbage, whatever is allowed after our trip, and will make small changes such as (sniff) cutting down on butter (my fave) and easing off red meat, eating mostly free range chickens and eggs and really stepping up my veggies. Its not exactly the liver diet as its supposed to be, but I feel that this way I am staying true to my low carb plan while also making subtle changes that will hopefully help this pudgy little liver of mine. I hope its enough to make a difference, It should be cause I just don't seem to get enough veggies in these days. I need to step it up on that. Can I eat beets? I love them but haven't had them in eons and I note that its the main veg in juicing.

I got to say am really disapointed in your doctor.

Whwy didn't she retest you to see if your 50 pounds gone was helping your liver and then decide what course of action to take?
If your fatty liever was improving then just keep doing your Atkins moving to OWL you will have the fruits and veggies you need for those juices too but you will get the added fiber from eating them and not drinking them!

beets are on the starchie veggie rung and can cause you cravings because of their high sugar content. be careful.

            What a crock of sh*t!!!

Fatty liver is not a horrible condition - however it IS a condition you have to fix. And you cannot fix a fatty liver by drinking raw juices!!!!!

The only way to fix the fatty liver (as I had a mild case of one back in 2003) is to lose weight!!!!! And what better way to lose weight than atkins. When we lose weight, fat stores are burned from all over the body, including any you may or may not have in your liver

Raw juices aint gunna help nothin in your liver!

RationalBeing: Why do you feel that raw juices wouldn't help detoxify the liver? I am curious, all opinions welcome naturally.

And 2Big: She did schedule me for another ultrasound as soon as I brought her the liver doctors book, she felt that over 50 lbs was significant enough to perhaps see some good results. I'm assuming she will want to talk to me after the results are in. I'm thinking that if she sees an improvement that she will likely just tell me to keep doing what I'm doing rather than go on the 8 week detox plan. When the 50 lbs came off she told me to continue Atkins as it's obviously working for me.

                  Re: Fatty Liver Stuff

It may help in the very very short term - like for a few hours. But when you have a fatty liver it means that your liver is not filtering as well as it should and certain enzymes in your blood stream are elevated. This is not great - however its not the worst thing in the world unless your liver is extremely fatty.

The only way to return the liver to full functionality is to lose general amounts of weight. What you are doing NOW is precisely what is needed. If you've lost 50lbs I can almost guarantee that there is marked improvement in your liver. I had fatty liver (mild case) when I was about 50lbs over weight - if you were 100lbs and your case was anything like mine, yours has probably gone from severe to mild already. You probably MUST continue to lose weight to get rid of the condition already, but you are already doing this.

If I were you I'd avoid this junk science and continue with what you are doing. I'd bet almost anything your ultrasound will show great improvement.

Don't be sorry your health is something that you are allowed to get upset about...I personally don't know much about the disease or condition, but I think you should go with your doctors orders after talking over ALL of the options with him!

so you will be full speed Atkinsing until then? you could climb the OWL rungs and add back many of ther foods in the juices and get whatever benefit they would give your liver as a part of your ATKINS WOE until then.
