  • NEW plan, whadd'ya think? AND slow whooshie!

WOOHOOOOO!!! I was down a pound today and also yesterday, and went to change the sig, which I discovered was 161 from early this week, so I musta gone down THREE WHOLE POUNDS in three days!!!!!!!!!! I had been so depressed from other stuff I guess I wasn't paying attention. And as Elizellen pointed out, the only thing I might have control of is what goes into my mouth! So thanks to 2big and the others, and lurking all over the board instead of binging like I wanted, I accidentally lost weight!!! I say accidentally because I seem to be on a forever plateau no matter what I do. Let's hope I don't magically "find" the pounds like I sometimes do even when my carbs are low.

But what I want feedback for is a new strategery that I'm thinking of adopting. I figure that I keep getting dissappointed that my weight loss is so S-L-O-O-O-W this time around, and that may be the reason I fall off the wagon and gain a few more here and there.

SO, what if I set my goal realistically LOW? I need to stay on this WOL for other reasons, among them better mental accuity, lack of hypoglycemia, less menopausal symptoms, better UT and heart health and probably other health issues. When I started, I read the book and my thoughts were, "well, I probably won't lose weight but it sounds like it will prevent my hypoglycemia from going into diabetes." I did lose almost 60 lbs in a year and was thrilled. Why can't I have the same attitude THIS time around?

I may have missed my "golden shot." But I could probably set my goal to 2 pounds a month, which gets me close to goal in a year!! This past year with on-and-off low-carbing sure hasn't worked and I gained about 25-30 lbs. If I stick to this for a year, I could be back to Miss Skinny again!!!! Is 2 lbs a month too much to ask for a Turtle? Should I NOT set a goal at all? Anyone else doing this? I never did put a time line on weight loss 2nd time around, and that may have been my undoing. I used to be the person that was utterly disgusted with people who keep cheating, and now I AM ONE.

    This has to stop.

    Hey small

i dont know about the rest, but it makes absolutely perfect sense to me.

setting little goals lets me keep things in perspective, i feel like i have a handle on things, I can have an idea of how/when things might happen

with that in mind, i hate being dissapointed, i am a total baby. so, i set my goals low, to make sure i stay positive, and hey, it works for me.

in fact when i swim, if i say im going to go for 40 in a row, it just doesnt work for me, but if I keep talking myself into going for another five, i make it to 80!

so, 2 pounds a month seems great, you definitely wont be dissapointed, and you can only go up! and goal in a year seems great! imagine, next easter you'll be the skinny you!

so... your goal by may is 156?... good for you! good luck!

Yeah, and WHEN I make it, it will be as low as I have been since about August!! Going DOWN in weight seems like such a good idea! Thanks for telling me it worked for you - I used to do the same thing when I was swimming!!! WHY didn't I have this brainstorm earlier?!?!

        shall i keep confessing??

I got so excited thinking about your goal for next year, i figured i might lose about 5lbs a month.... and maybe be at goal by the time I start at my new school this fall!!! imagine.... a whole group of people who'll only remember me as skinny..

yeah, it seems like a great brainstorm to me. it completely got me going. if i dont make it to goal by fall, it'll be ok. but being able to imagine it, and put a "face" on it really inspires me to work for it, and motivation is definitely what i need. anything that keeps me moving is good in my book!

        I even changed my signature!

you swam? yeay! i haven't found any swimmers at all. I just started a couple of months ago, and already I can do 2km non-stop!

hey Captain Smallersizing you look so small! Have you shed some poundswhile you were working on getting healthy again?

Human brains learn and yours learned you can cheat and start again and your toes don't fall off and the weight loss will resume so the need to not cheat has been lost. Now you need to work on controlling the harm should you something called carb harm reduction. jump back on to Atkins the very next bite should you jump off again. Each time you will recover faster and soon it will be long times between the cheats.

So set some realistic health goals and strive for those with any scale weight lost as a bonus like getting more time exercisising and increasing your endurance. When you don't watch the pounds they sneal off

"carb harm reduction" ----- That makes a lot of sense!!! Should I be monitoring serum lipids? I'm sure they have gone back up to danger level after all this back and forth stuff.

I don't know that I have learned that the weight loss resumes. I have a very stupid mind-set that "as long as I'm out of ketosis, I may as well enjoy myself for a meal or two" which of course turns into at least a couple days. I'm usually more intelligent than that, but it's gonna be hard to re-train myself NOT to binge after an accident, like I did in Feb when the ketostix told me I couldn't handle Dreamfields pasta.

Also, I haven't exactly been losing, overall. The total damage since my Christmas 04 cheat has been over 40 lbs!!! (I just did the math) Of course some of it was water weight from a round of cortisone combined with a 3 day cheat, so some of it came off fast. But out of 10 lbs gained on that one, I only lost 5 right away. Mostly I stay on plan, but these occassional lapses do SOOOOO much damage!!! I just have to stay IN CONTROL but apparently it is something I will have to re-learn.

Oh, Jimenetayo, I don't swim anymore. Scared of the water. I only swam several years ago cuz I was so crippled I couldn't walk!!! Doing the Gazelle now, but since I just started I don't know if it's gonna be bad for my knees, and swimming ISN'T. I'm hoping I don't have to do it again! I can't believe I used to swim 20 laps a day 6 days a week!! I was just more scared of my wheelchair than of the water!!

Cap'n 2big, what's this about PERMISSION? I'm well aware that you are too MEAN to give me permission EVER to eat carbs!!!

Just wish I were as hard on myself as YOU are.

Well, I lasted 2 weeks since my paycheck bounced. Stress can't control me!!! I'll just keep saying that.........

what do you mean "I give you permission"

you did it to yourself. I"m telling you NOT to give yourself permission and jump back on your Atkins next bite. that is practicing carb harm reduction

Small goals are wise. I'm shocked when people on the board whine because they hit a stall of only two weeks or they "only" lost 10 lbs in one month. I don't understand the quick fix mind frame. It just seems like such a set up for failure. Small goals keep your eye on the big picture. Getting skinny isn't going to solve all of our problems unfortunately!

I WAS DOWN ANOTHER TWO POUNDS THIS MORNING!!!

What does the scale DO, listen and when I say I don't care if I lose a lot, it finally gives me what I have EARNED? Yes, I know I should measure and not weigh, but weighing is faster and I'm addicted. At least my new plan has thwarted the mind of the metal montster!! Hehehe
