  • Why doesn't 2nd time work as well as 1st?

    Hi all,

I was wondering if someone can tell me why induction doesn't work as well the second time around. I have been on Atkins for about 2 1/2 years and I started to put weight back on theis last winter. I decided to start induction again and did a CLEAN 14 days and only lost 1 lb. and haven't lost any more since. The first time I did it I lost 15 lbs in 2 weeks and then gradually lost the rest of the weight I wanted. I did have more about 40 lbs to lose then but I do have a good 20 lbs to lose now.
Does this work the second time or do you have to go totally off this way of eating for a while and then start back up later or does it even work if you start it back up later?

Please help because I don't want to put anymore weight on, and want to get off the weight I did gain back.......

    Hi Karin.

I'm a former, on again, off again, on again, off again...you know the routine. I've learned from some really great people here on the board and read up a bit more on the same situation you're in. You're body is basically in a tug a war and needs a little extra time and umph to get moving again. We don't lose the weight like before because our body starts thinking it needs to hang on to the fat, and not let it go without some extra effort (exercise, water, and keeping to the code of watching the carb intake). Since we all lose weight so differently, your journey maybe quicker or slower then others.

I know that's a bit just plain and not very scientific, but for the most part, it's just about having to work a little extra harder the 2nd, 3rd, 4th time around.

Hope this helps some in your understanding of what your body's doing. Just remember to keep plugging along, keep exercising, drink your water, and stay the course.

    Best wishes on your journey!

I've also read right here at ADBB that the less we have to lose overall, the less we'll lose on induction. So if you only have 20 pounds to lose, I think that 1 pound was a good loss. Good luck to you.

yep you don't have the exact same body every time you restart your Atkins so your results will not be identical to your original loss. You need to also know that as a smaller person you need less fuel to do the exact same things so if you ate the exact same meals in the same amount this time as last you shouldn't be getting the same reults. remember to feed your hunger and stop as soon as your hunger is satisfied even if you got room in your belly food on the plate and carbs in the budget. you can eat something as soon as hunger returns on Atkins so don't fill up just cause what you got on the plate is low carb.

        Happy low carbing.

What are you doing for the exercise part of your Atkins?

Re: Why doesn't 2nd time work as well as 1st?

It's been....hmmm, a couple of years since I had lost most of the weight I wanted, then .....life happened. Now I'm back

One thing I've noticed is that 2big4mysize is right with her answer. I've also noticed that I react to stress, thus gaining back my extra pounds. I restarted this tuesday, and lost 5.5 lbs by friday. Went to work today, stress, craved popcorn, and blew the induction tonight. I'm afraid to see what it does to my lovely restart. Sigh.

So, while our bodies have changed, sometimes, what got us here in the first place doesn't and needs to be dealt with for long term health. I also suspect that you haven't loss as fast this time because you have less to lose than last time.

Hi 2big4mysize, I've missed ya. The forum is different, hope I'm doing this right.

Re: Why doesn't 2nd time work as well as 1st?

I have been on atkins since 2003. I regained 30 lbs. Now I keep going between 140 and 146 lbs. Today I finally made it to 139.5. Hopefully this is the beginning of the weight loss. I have had my Synthoid adjusted to the proper level and I am seeing an Endocrinologist who specializes in Metabolizm. So hopefully I will get back down to my 117 lbs I was a year and half ago. Just stick with it. And for me, no more cheating with Pizza on Friday nights.LOL Dawn
