  • Starting over - frustrated

    Hello all,

First time around with Atkins I did great, saw amazing results in a really short amount of time. Went from 225 to 182 from August to April (2003). Then I started slipping and by August had completely blown it all off and slowly started gaining. By last spring I was back up to about 195. Had a friend of mine invite me to start walking with her and before long we were up to 3 miles in 45 mins or less 5 days a week. I felt great, looked great and even though I only lost 4 or 5 more pounds my body was re-shaping nicely. I actually liked my butt for the first time in YEARS. Once school started our kids were all involved in so many activities that it was almost impossible for us to exercise and then I did a really stupid thing, I changed jobs and it was horrible. So for 6 months I ate like crap, hamburgers almost daily, candy bar at 3 p.m. daily. I went from 192 to 212 in less than 6 months and this just added to the depression. So now not only did I have a crappy job but I was fat all over again. I went backto my old job and my support group and am so much happier.

We started Atkins (me and my walking buddy) about 3 weeks ago. I bought an Atkins carb counter for my PDA and have been religiously tracking carbs. I'll be honest about the sodas (I just couldn't deal with the caffeine withdrawal headaches) and admit that I didn't immediately cut those out but was drinking diet soda or tea. I have only had 3 cheats in that time, I've tried to be really good. Our walking has been impeded because of busy end of school year schedules but tomorrow is the last day and i'm hoping that we can get back into our 5 day a week routine. I have a great support system at home and at work.

Long story short, TOO LATE, is that in the 3 weeks i've only lost 4 pounds. Last week I gave up the sodas and started drinking lots of water (flavored with the sugar free Crystal Light mixes) and drink 4 or 5 bottles a day and tea at lunch. I might have one soda a day. The scale and I are still not friends but everyone says that I'm losing inches. My clothes are fitting differently, I was just hoping to see a bigger loss on the scales. I lost 8 pounds the first week the first time around. I'm discouraged and frustrated and wondering what i'm doing wrong or if it's going to work for me this time around.

If anyone has any advice at all, I'm all ears.

Hoping to hear from you guys soon.

Congratulations on dropping that lousy job and getting back on the Atkins train!
I'm discouraged and frustrated and wondering what i'm doing wrong or if it's going to work for me this time around.
It might be nothing going wrong at all

It seems to me that your body shape is changing and to be honest I would prefer that to seeing the scales move if I had a choice - after all unless you wear a T-shirt printed with the word "I weigh XXX today" who can tell what your weight is, but everyone can see those loose clothes!

As to losing less this time around - you are starting from a different weight and with a different body so should not expect the same results

Just keep working the plan and you will become a big loser I am sure
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

      Karla,
As I understand it the Crystal Lite from the powder is sweetened with aspertame which is known to stall some people. If you are drinking the ready made it is sweeten with splenda which is a better choice but in induction there is a limit of 3 sweetners a day and if you have a bottle that has 1 1/2 servings in it that takes up half of your limit.
You might want to try a few days of just good old H2O and see what that does for you. Hugs!

Well I have the same problem with the withdrawl headaches, but you really need to stop adding stuff to your water it is really important to get untainted water. I am down to 2 sodas a day and I know there is a day when I will see none at all........

Now reveiw your menu re-read the book, make sure you are not creeping in the carbs, such as soda and crystal light a serving of each on e those is 1 carb, noe franken foods either they really hinder wieght loss

I am sure you will be a hot mama in no time

I read your POST right you ahve had 3 cheats in the past 3 weeks if you have that's your Problem. You probably would have lost more weight had you not cheated. When you cheat it basically slows down your losses to a stand still and after every one it take anywhere from 3-5 days to get back to losing mode so you ahve spent most of the last 3 weeks with your body not in fat burning mode. I know it's hard I ahve been where you are I have cheated I have fallen off but, I keep getting back on and this time I have lost 107 pounds so it can be done and it can be done cheat free. You sooo CAN do it you can get this weight off. Try not to be discouraged and try not to look at the scale look how great you are doing. Why did you cheat those 3 time??? Stress you need to find the trigger and find something elese to do with yourself if you ever feel the need.

          You CAN DO IT!!!!
