  • Where are the old timers? Considering one more time

Where are the oldtimers on this site?, I didn't recognize any signatures or screen names. I was an active member here years ago. I lost over 100 pounds and my weight loss came to a standstill. I think I was just consuming too many calories for my size. I had to lower my calorie intake so low that I was hungry all the time. Just to shake things up I started following the Weight Watcher's diet. I lost the remainder of my weight and reached my goal weight of 128, down from my starting weight of 272. It's been a lot harder maintaining my weight and I find myself fluctuating 10-12 pounds. I'm not maintaining..... I'm binging and dieting. I'm also bored with following the Weight Watcher's program and counting points. I hate this vicious cycle. I'd like to get to my personal goal of 120. I'm currently at 131. I miss the rich full fat foods on Atkins, and trying to do Atkins and count points in Weight Watchers is impossible because the food is so much more calorically dense. It just won't work. I'm considering trying induction again so see if I can shake things up and start losing again. Has anyone here ever been in my situation and how did you handle it? I'm 53 years old, only 5 ft. tall. How can I stick with Atkins and keep my calorie intake low without feeling hungry all the time?

There are a number of us "old timers" still around. I remember you! Plus 2big, not2late, bren, motherofgizmo and many others are still regular posters.

            Hi Amy!
            I remember you too!

When you did Atkins last time did you stay on induction for a long time or did you work your way up the OWL rungs? From what I read on these boards the second way of getting to goal seems to be the most effective one

By reintroducing new foods gradually while upping our carbs it helps us learn what we can eat and how much of it which lesson once learned hopefully will allow us to maintain goal weight once we reach it.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

still low carbing.... I stall a lot... so now I exercise more.... eat less calories... smaller quantities.... but eat the same old stuff.... meats....steak, pork, brocolli, salads, fish.... eggs....

Re: Where are the old timers? Considering one more time

Hi, Amy! I remember you too! I've been here every day although I my weight loss stalled out around two years ago. I'm only halfway to goal, so I certainly know how frustrating it can be. You were always one of the people I was inspired by.

Although my weight loss has stopped (and I think menopause has had something to do with it), I've found that when I completely cut out artificial sweeteners, all my cravings went away and I am satisfied to eat 3 meals and no snacks, usually. I never thought I could do that, but I feel so much better in my head, it's worth it. No more standing in front of the refrigerator or hunting through the cabinets because I'm "hungry".

I'm glad you're back and thrilled at your success. Good luck getting back with Atkins. For what it's worth, I think you're doing the right thing.

Oh my..... lots of people from "back in the day". Brook, you look amazing!!!!! I'm still undecided about starting over on induction.... I guess I'm a little scared of eating more calories then my body can metabolize after more then a year of doing low fat and low cal. I did go out dancing last night, did ballroom and Swing for 4 hours after swimming laps yesterday morning for an hour and 20 minutes. I got on the scale this morning and was down to 129. I couldn't believe it. Putting weight back on after losing so much is so scary.... 5 pounds feels like 25, and the distorted body image is frightening. My biggest issue is the binge eating.... I didn't do it when I was doing Atkins, (except for the occasional whole jar of almonds) which is making me think I need to go back to that way of eating, and I wasn't always preoccupied with food and eating. I guess I could try again and see if it works for me. Thank you all for your support and warm welcome.

                            Hi, Amy!!

I remember you, but I kind of dropped out of this board around the holidays 2003 and was on a smaller board. Just getting re-started for the 50th time (and the LAST time!). I'm 52 and about 5', got down to 127 and then around the holidays of 2004 started doing the binging thing. Mostly on Atkins but off too many times to do any good. Gained more than half the 60 lbs back.

Good for you that you are able to stay skinny!! I keep thinking I'm losing slowly this time around, and I am, but I'm down 15 lbs from February. That's a start!
