  • Belly dancing

On a whim, I signed up for belly dancing. Beginner's classes start tonight and run for 10 weeks (once a week). I have NO rhythm and NO dance experience, so this ought to be interesting! I thought it might be a fun addition to my exercise routine, plus my belly is my biggest problem area so it certainly can't hurt. Anyway, I am really excited!! I've spent the last while feeling defeated with all my hard work and no results... maybe this is what I need to get my metabolism going, or, at the very least, I think it will make me feel good.

    Wish me luck

Well, I just got back now. It was a lot of fun... of course I was totally lost with a lot of the moves... I'm especially having trouble isolating my ribcage... I actually have to use my hands to move my ribcage otherwise everything else moves with it. Anyway, that will come with time... I worked up a bit of a sweat, too. It reminds me a bit of pilates or yoga in some ways. Anyway. fun stuff. Can't wait until next week

          Re: Belly dancing

I've been taking belly dancing classes for about a year and a half now. I usually go every other 10 week session, and I *love* it!!

You are going to find muscles you didn't know you had. LOL The isolations will absolutely come with time, and if you don't have a hip scarf yet, get one! It helps when learning to shake your hiney (you can hear it. LOL).

I had the most trouble learning to walk and use finger cymballs (zils) at the same time. LOL Trust me, it's not as easy as it looks!

I'm glad you had a great time!
