  • I was a heart attack waiting to happen...

I don't normally post here but I wanted to share this.

I went to the DR last week. I've been on (and slightly off) this whole WOE for 2 years and I'm into year 3. I just got my blood work back today.

    Here are my results...

My Total cholesterol 160 (normal less than 200)
    Triglycerides 44 (normal range 40-150)
HDL (good one) 58 (normal more than 40)
LD (bad one) 93 (normal less than 130)
    Cholesterol/HDL ration is 2.76 (recommended below 4.4)

SO... (and this is on the report folks) "This means your heart attack risk is less than normal."

Also my glucose, calcium, sodium, potassium, BUN and Creatinine (kidney function), SGPT, SG0T, Bilirubin (liver function), alkaline phosphatase (liver or bone), EKG (cardiogram), CBC (complete Blood Count) and thyroid function were all COMPLETELY NORMAL!!

    My BP was 100/70...low!!!

When I started this my BP was 128/75
My cholesterol was 204 which was down from 213
all the other numbers had started creeping up to the above normal ranges.

I've not always been "good" as in sticking to this exactly all the time and I've fallen off the wagon too many times to count (not 40 pounds falling off but 5-10 before I catch myself and grab back on and pull myself back up) and my weight loss this past year has only been 10 pounds...BUT BUT BUT

I'm still here and now my risk of a heart attack is "LESS THAN NORMAL"...

So here's to all your good health !

Drink up your water and keep on returning when you fall. You CAN do it!

    Kathy

Re: I was a heart attack waiting to happen...

Thanks gang. It was such an amazing moment. I knew I was so much healthier than before but that "less than normal" risk of heart attack bit just hit me hard!

My mom's brother has had 4-5 heart attacks, my mom's parents were both heart issues for cause of death. My dad has congestive heart failure and can't get around well. My mom has arrythmia and is one blood pressure pills, anticoagulents and yet another to control her heart beats, so the family history is OVERWHELMING.

I'm trying to **BEAT** that family history by taking control now. My dad said to me, "don't be like me, get it together now while you can, you know what's waiting if you don't" I've taken that message and I'm now keeping that close. When I'm tempted to step off the edge with a carb overload I now use that to remind myself where I could end up.

So if anyone tells you this WOE is all about meat and fat and bad eating habits, you can tell them you KNOW differently...

                Kathy
