  • Sunflower seeds?

I know I'm in the repeat offender area but I am curious about sunflower seeds. I love to crack them while I'm reading at night. I noticed on the bag that there's only 2.5 carbs in the whole bag which would normally last me weeks. Why can't I eat these? I'm sure there's some reason, right? Are they a stall & if so why? I guess I'm asking because I feel like these will save me a cheat. I'd rather cheat w/ these than go over board & cheat w/ something that's high in carbs. I know I shouldn't be thinking about cheating at all but I am curious as to why these are off the list. Thanks in advance!

PS I made it through day 1 - not under 20 carbs but close & I ate all induction foods!!
Day 2 already feels easier! I'm going to take my kids to the park to help resist temptation.

You can eat them when you reach the nut rung.

Since you're in this forum, you've already done Atkins before. Did you go through the rungs before? I'm restarting, but am opting not to start at induction this time unless I have trouble or don't start shrinking by next month. When I travelled up the ladder before, I learned what my problem foods were. So I am allowing my nuts - I have always found that they help me and did not stall me or cause cravings.

So if you're trying a clean induction, then hold off on the seeds. But if you did the rungs before and know that nuts don't set you back, then move up the rungs.

I can't have berries for a long time. That was a difficult rung for me before and I skipped it altogether this time - just can't have them.

        Re: Sunflower seeds?

From one sunflower seed lover to another (plus I'm from Kansas, the Sunflower State... hehe) personally I do without them when on Induction. Induction is like hitting the reset button on your bodily digestive system. I found that until a clean induction was well under way, moving around the rungs would throw me out of ketosis and off into weight gain.

Some of my favorite OWL nut and seed rung snacks are sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds (also called pepitas), unsalted almonds, walnuts, macadamias... still have to watch the sodium as it'll make me bloat if I'm not careful.

I think that when you are on the right rung...go ahead and try them...personally the first time I did atkins, they saved me alot of times....I love them too, and it takes a long time to eat them and you don't get many of the actual seeds in a short amount of time, as long as you are eating the ones in the shells. But you have to try and see if it causes you any problems, each of our bodys are different

If they prove to be okay for you, that's great. I love them. I buy a bag of salt-free at Trader Joe's. They last me forever. I don't eat them but once or twice a week. I pour them into a little bathroom Dixie cup about half-way. I buy them without shells. I think they're great on salad, too.
