  • New to the club

I posted an introduction a few forums up, but wanted to jump in here as well. I've been away from Atkins for a while. I tried sticking to it when I started teaching, two years ago, but what started out as small cheats led to total carelessness followed by various new diet attempts ... from just watching what I eat (which was useless - I had no problem watching that Twinkie enter my lips...) to WeightWatchers (I was always hungry).

So I'm back here, two years and 35 pounds heavier than last time. I have all summer to get strong in my WOE before I'm back to school and finding candies stuck in my mailbox and cupcakes/cookies/muffins waiting for me at every staff meeting.

I really like this forum - kudos to whomever thought it up!

So I'm hosting three parties this weekend and have out-of-town guests all next week. I wanted to post so I can draw some support from my fellow club members. I've made a glorious cheese/meat/olive tray that I can pull out for each party. There will be birthday cake at two of them so I threw out the icecream (I can resist cake better if there's no icecream). I plan to have a Pisco sour* tonight, as it will be my first time making them, but mine will be very small and without sugar. I making it small because I don't want any lapses in judgement, haha. I'll also stick out a nut bowl, but I'll put MY nuts on a plate before eating them so I don't lose track of how many I've gobbled.

Tomorrow's party will be much eaier - my hubby is a master of the smoker and will create a bounty of low-carb delicacies. He'll also be frying up some naked wings.

My mom is coming next week to make "chicken-n-dumplings" for our guests that will be here for a week. I hate having to make a separate meal for me, but they will understand. Maybe I'll make a nice salad to go with the chicken-n-dumplings, then chunk mine up for a meal-salad.

Thanks to all of the STAC members who visit and post!

*A Pisco sour is like a combination of spiked lemonade and Orange Julius... Pisco, lime juice, sugar (Splenda for me, thanks), ice and egg whites (the secret ingredient to making the froth in the Orange Julius).

I will take complete and absolute credit for thinking up this forum before anyone else does. LOL.

Hi, Josie! I remember you from before. If I'm remembering correctly, you've got some killer recipes, so I know you'll do great!

Whad'ya know! I got off and on for the last yr and a half (since going back to full-time work, also off and on) and gained 35 as well! Don't it just STINK after being skinny?

I was wondering how the job and stuff was going! Good to see you again, although I haven't been around much due to the new flavor in my job-of-the-month Club. No more on and off for me. I've been "clean" since February except two planned days on my bd in May. This is what it's going to take for me, just doing it one day at a time. I still have 21 pounds to go and they are coming off REAL slow.

                Hi Josie,

I see that we are definately thinking alike. I too am a teacher and would love to meet my goal before heading back in September. It's my hope that with all the progess I make this summer, I will be motivated to keep it off throughout the school year and say NOOOO to those chocolates that will undoubtedly end up on my desk!

                    Re: New to the club

Thanks everyone! I have faced ten bags of chips and three cakes and won. Oh, even better - we went into a candy store with my guests. I.... have.... the.... power! Hahahahahaaaaaa

As a matter of fact, I have already been to the food section and plan to start entering some stuff, Laurie. I love to cook, which is part of my downfall (ugh). It's nice to be remembered! I see a lot of names I recognize but I'm not totally sure they are the same people I knew before.

I recently went on a trip to Peru and when I came back, I was 7 pounds heavier but I could tell right away a lot of it was water. I don't really know why, but our trip consisted of travelling between the Amazon jungle and the high-altitude of Cusco so water bloating is not a surprize. Anyway, I weighed this morning and all of that came off plus another pound.

                          Re: New to the club

Hello fellow pedagogue! I learned very quickly how to spy those lurking, well-meaning nasties LOL in my box... I developed a pretty good wrist at swiping them outta my box and off into the band or art or choir teacher's boxes. Those artsy types need that kinda thing. baaaaahahahha And the teacher's lounge was my slippery place last year, avoided it like the plague and really did better until one day in a moment of insanity decided oh-heck-with-it-I'll-jump-back-on-after-the-holidays. The jump back on happened at the end of June. Sheeshola! This after gaining back 70% of my former weight loss... *sniff*

Next year I'm in a different building altogether and without a central lounge, so hopefully I'll get to avoid the major goody deliveries. Hopefully I've learned my lesson. Hopefully between my committment, the support I receive here and from my family and friends, I'll do better next year. Together we CAN!
