  • frustration has officially set in...

so, the last few weeks... my weight loss has been getting slower and slower... till now... and today, i have revealed a loss of 0lbs.

what is frustrating about this whole situation is: every week, i remove foods that might be SLOWING my loss. now i'm pretty much down to meat, cheese, and veggies.

Re: frustration has officially set in...

I wish there was a magic cure for the frustration. My pattern is to lose for the first several weeks or first month then I lose nothing.

That is ............... N-O-T-H-I-N-G for a month or more. But I do lose inches and feel wonderful. Then my pattern is to lose 7-8# over a few morning weigh ins then its back to N-O-T-H-I-N-G for another month or so. It is pretty frustrating not to see any loss on the scale.

Do you take measurements? Are you losing inches? Feel good? Do you see progress other than on the scale? Do you think you are eating too little?

I lose best when staying away from sweeteners and cream most of the time. I only have them on weekends when I have coffee. I cant do flax muffins or all that a lot either. I save those for occasional use also to try and not get bored with what I am eating. I stick to the veggies and meat and a modest amount of cheese. After induction though I will begin the rungs this time. In the past I stayed on an extended induction.

Hang in there. You may begin to lose again if you give it some time.

I had the same experience as Terry. There are weeks when I just didn't lose. You have to get out those tight pants and try them on cause this is when, for some reason, the inches seems to start peeling off.
Don't get stressed about it cause stress will hinder weight loss just as much as adding carbs.

Unfortunatly there isn't a doctor on this site that I know of, so pin pointing why your scale isn't budging must be very difficult. I had to do the yeast version for a while, only eating meat and veggies, cream cheese, and a little mozzerella. I had to cut out everything that was fermented or aged. After 4 weeks, I felt like a million bucks, and the pounds started to drop again.

When I started Atkins in 2004, it was heart breaking. I went for 3 months with my scale showing two pound losses, two pound gains, and never going below 370, but everyone kept saying it looked like I had lost weight. Finally I bought a new scale, since mine was an antique...LOW AND BEHOLD I had lost 40 pounds. I guess I bring it up, since there might be at least one person out there whose scale is a piece of junk like mine was. Otherwise, I say stay the course, or try the fat diet for a week that Dr. Atkins mentions in his book. It sounds gross to me, but people have jump started their weight loss with it. Good luck whatever you do!

              Dan,

this is actually good in a way, because you have come to the first challenge of the diet.

How you handle this challenge will determine your long term success.

As long as you exercise regularly, follow the plan to the letter, and are not hungry, your weight will eventually go down.

I don't have a time frame for you, but it will definately go down.

What you experience, has happenned to me pretty much all the way along. Have you heard the term 'wooshie', that's the drop after a stall. It seems to happen a lot on Atkins.

Our bodies do not want to give up the precious fat, and because the Atkins diet is defferent to calorie reduction diets, we work in different ways.

You see on low cal diets, constant weight loss is not necessarily good, because there is a higher percentage of lean body mass loss. I know this from personal experience.

What is happening is that your body is doing it's thing to reduce in size, and my theory is that even if fat is being loss, it replaces that fat with water.

You will get through this, keep the faith my friend!

                    I hear ya Dan,
I woke this morning to a 5lb gain !!! sooo frustrated that i even had a little

Had a great first 2 weeks then ive yo-yoed 2lbs either way ever since.
Womens stuff probably to blame for a couple of weeks, but by the book for the rest.

Im pretty much down to meat and veg also.
Ive cut the cheese and cream.....nothing, so now im going to tackle the salt intake.

Just read LC Daves post and feel better already...great advice dave, thanks.

Scales can be disheartening. You can retain water after a strenuous workout, or you may even be replacing fat with muscle which hides your progress to the scales.

On the otherhand - in case you haven't looked at the percentage composition in your daily intake of fat, protein and carbs, (as % of total calories, which info you can get entering your diet at www.fitday.com) take a look. You should be keeping protein around 30%; extra protein can be converted by your body to carbs!
