I'm sorry you got that impression. I actually hadn't read your post, I was just participating in the thread in general. If I've offended you, although I'm not sure how, again my apologies. I enjoy being supportive and promoting posotive body images.

Right now though I'm keeping my goal weight at 100lbs from where I started Atkins. Wow I can't even imagine only being 20 pounds over the weight charts. Can't wait to get there and I know I will with Atkins!

Sweet Sadie we're on the same wave length, I scrolled down and found the same info as you on the MET info: According to the Met Tables you should weigh between 140 lbs. and 159 lbs..

Alright, here we come Sexiness with the help of Atkins.

See I know I look good @ 160 lbs. Even better @ 140 lbs. I can pass @ 180 lbs. I don't ever want to be stick thin, I'm not built like an Ectomorph, but being thin with curves is my goal and ideal for my body shape being a Mesomorph.

Re: How to determine goal weight?

((((Samantha)))) You didn't say a thing wrong and have nothing to apologize for.

Too many people beat themselves up when they start using those silly charts. A friendly reminder of that fact can't hurt! Those charts are as general as general can be. The only really accurate way to do any of this is with a body fat percentage, and even that's subjective. While I'm comfortable at 17-20%, others may be at 25% or 15%. <shrug>

I originally set my goal weight to be 130-135lbs. I'd look ridiculous at 135lbs, not to mention being unhealthy, and the 130ish mark is where those charts put me.

It's really tough to see though until you start nearing your goals, at least it was for me.

Re: How to determine goal weight?

DragonflyMoon I understand what you are saying about those minigoals. I never had them until I got convencied we had to have them and then I became a very frustrated loser getting them cause once you get it you are already heading for ther next goal and not enjoying the I lost feeling.
Since your minigoals frustrated you just run from your old former heavy self celebrating how much space you have gotten from her. Those that were here back then know I was a project in deconstruction moving away from the heavier me toward some new smaller me wowed by the I've lost x total pounds, not I weigh Y and am headed toward Z. Celebrate the exercise acheivements too. Boy I was estactic when i got to 20 min on the treadmill without slowing or holding on. then 30 min and so on soon you are not focused on the sclaes but on improving your physical fitness and eating habits and suddenly those scale numbers are woo hoo I lost not YUCK look what I weigh. I really wish there was a way to zero the sclaes on your beginnign weight and then weigh in negative numbers like minus 5 minus 6 minus 7 ... so you wouldn't even know what the actual weight number was cause the joy of Atkins is jumping on the sclaes or using the tape measure and seeing how much fat you have burned off not how much fat you still got to go.

yep I remember Brook. You were going to be unhealthy body fat % at your goal weight and we were all going to have to come to MN for an intervention.

rmemeber when you use those sites your wrist will get smaller as you lose weight so thier estimator will change too. I'm sure everybody remembers when the BMI charts came out many of the larger NBA fellows with less then 10% body fat were obese according to the BMI formula

Also when you do Atkins you are adding lean body mass as you shed the fat so you are going to at the same weight on the way down be smaller then you were on the way up cause more of your pounds will be lean body mass.

Don't let some site number be your end all cause you are going to find they aren't realistic for you.

I agree, estimation.. but just the though of it... unobtainable for me. For me, anything UNDER what I weigh now is wonderful My oldest is 145 pounds and 5 feet 7 inches.. I think that would be too thin for me. I'm just wanting to be normal again.
