    Who watched Oprah yesterday??

I was in the gym, doing my first work out and Oprah had a show on weight loss . . .of course low carb came up and a lot of what she said it what we are suppose to do on this Atkins way of life. She said of course NO CARBs diets are bad you can't live your life like that; you have to remove refined carbs from your diet and get your carbs from good things like veggies?

She recommended things like drinking green tea with 1 packet of splenda, whole grains foods.

It just sound a lot like our way of life, once you work your way up the rungs and all. It just made me smile to know I am doing alright and as much as other people bash Atkins they don't know the facts about this way of life. We are going just Fine! -not that we needed to be reminded

    Re: Who watched Oprah yesterday??

Spot on, people rarely understand the workings of low carb diets. Even now 2.5 years on I still having to explain certain things to some friends of mine.

I went into a shope the other day for something to eat whilst driving back to the office from a meeting. I picked up a bottle of water and a packet of nuts. The guy behind the till said how nice it was to see someone eat healthily. I didnt even think of it has healthy when I was buying it. Until he said it, but then it dawned on me that it is.

    I'll stop rambling on now......

It never ceases to amaze me of how easy and how effective this ***diet*** is!!

I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

Wow! You look amazing! A totally different person. Great job!!

Oh yes, when I mentioned I was back on Atkins, my mom started with eating too much bacon and all the eggs you want.. and how it's GOT to be bad for you. I tried to explain to Ms. Weight Watchers that it's not about eating all you want. You do learn portion control and eventually you are eating NORMALLY. I tried to explain I don't eat bacon every day and even though I do have eggs, my cholesterol was BETTER while doing atkins with all my egg eating than it was before. They don't want to learn something new.. they just have a mental block about it. You know, we are eating slabs of bacon and eggs and cheese and NO CARBS. Geeze. You'd think after seeing me lose 12 pounds and feeling great they would open up their minds. Last time I lost 50 pounds and trust me, I was not starving and by then only had bacon once a week, if that much. She finally had a lightbulb moment when I said "on WW the veggies are free foods, right? You can eat all you want?" NO. "well, on atkins, protein is a free food, but like veggies on WW you cannot eat all you want. You slowly learn moderation and portion control as your appetite decreases and the weight comes off you don't need as much food." Finally, my grandmother piped in with "Let her alone. If it works, then she's doing something right." Go Grandma! Even my doctor agrees it's a good way of eating.. so..I tell them to argue with him

        Oprah's Weight Loss Secrets

As a Valentine's Day special, Oprah Winfrey devoted her entire show to weight loss - answering all the questions she is constantly asked.

There aren't actually many secrets. Oprah worked closely with personal trainer Bob Greene - author of the book "Get With The Program". It is a good book - going through the gradual changes of getting your diet right, and incorporating a strong fitness aspect. Bob Greene himself says:

This is not a diet book.
This is not a fitness book.
This is a book about moving - in the right direction. It's a book about getting real about getting back into shape, physically and emotionally, realistically and gradually.

During 2004 Bob Greene partnered with eDiets to get the program online - it's just been rebranded "Total Body Makeover". You can start with the free fitness/diet profile here (then just click on the Total Body Makeover button).

What about Oprah's diet? This diet-blog post talked about how Oprah eats no refined carbs. That's just a small piece to the puzzle. The diet follows the general principles of; increased lean protein, moderate healthy fats, and reduced refined carbs (not to be confused with a very-low-carb diet).

So there you have it - an excellent fitness component, and a clean balanced diet - the keys to sustainable weight loss. Like it or not, exercise and fitness are a part of any weight controlled lifestyle.

        Oprah's Diet Secrets

Bob Greene's Total Body MakeoverExtra: Oprah Winfrey eats no white bread, white rice, flour, sugar, pasta, and potatoes. Whole wheat pasta and breads are okay, but in moderation. No alcohol, and two fruit per day. Her big secret is weight resistance training.

Oprah has had one-on-one training with Bob Greene - a trainer that includes both strength and cardio training. Bob Greene has released his program online called "Total Body Makeover" (so you and me can lose weight like Oprah!).

See Oprah's program here (then select the first option "Total Body Makeover"). I had the chance to have a look around the program and Oprah's diet transformation is no surprise. Bob Greene knows what he is doing.

Thanks! You'd think by now our country would wise up and see sugar is not a good thing! Nor is salt. One day they will wake up. Hopefully soon!

            Re: Who watched Oprah yesterday??

What I want to see is the total eradication of high fructose corn syrup from foods. Even foods that claim to be healthy (whole wheat bread, for example), still contain a form of sugar. And for what reason? To keep people craving more of the same. Its an outright evil.

Get even, do not purchase processed foods, even so-called "healthy" ones.
