  • Second time, after 5 years

I'm back into induction, on my 6th day. I've lost a total of 9 pounds so far.

5 years ago I started Atkins for the first time. I lost a ridiculous amount of weight right off the bat - something like 15-20 the first month, with only the two week induction. The other two weeks of that month I was in OWL. I relaxed a lot afterward because I was comfortable with the loss - it put me into a place where I didn't stress over every ounce gained or lost throughout any given week.

I stayed on course until I hit the 50 pounds lost mark, a few months later, and then I relaxed more. I went into my own version of a maintenance plan. I simply was careful about eating too many carbs. I didn't weigh anything. I didn't measure anything. I was just careful.

That was awesome and I kept every bit of that weight off for 5 years, until a few months ago when we moved. I became depressed, didn't have a job here and was basically living on pizza, ice cream and any kind of junk I could get my hands on. Sweatpants really are the enemy, you know. Without a job, I was housewifeing-it and never noticed gaining weight because sweats s-t-r-e-t-c-h!

Then I got a job. A fantastic job. A job where vendors love to court us and bring in tasty treats nearly every day. On any given day, there is a big chocolate cake, bagels with a variety of cream cheese, doughnuts, danishes, sandwiches from a local deli, and so on and so on. Our vendors love us.

When I got that job, I had a major reality check. NONE of my nice clothes fit anymore. We're not talking just a little snug. We're talking not being able to pull them up, much less ZIP them! I lived with that for a while, buying bigger clothes and basically looking about 10 or more years older than i really am. Depressing!

Then about a month ago, one of the girls in the office started looking a lot leaner. I asked what she was doing. She grinned and said. "Atkins! It's awesome." I almost died.

So two weeks later, give or take, I had the motivation and stocked up the fridge with all the right stuff. I bought the book again, too. I'm determined to stick with this, and thankfully I'm seeing quick results.

Today at work there was a huge chocolate layer cake with glazed strawberries on top and a big tub of pretzels, too. I looked at them and although I can't say I didn't want any, I can say that I didn't have to force myself to walk away. I didn't crave it. So the worst of the sugar cravings must be gone now.

That's it. That's my story and where I am. I weighed myself the first day and then again today and I am down 9 pounds. I measured myself too and I am losing inches as well. That makes me happy.

Thanks =) Today I am teetering at almost 10 pounds down. I can't quite say ten, but it's almost there! To get to my goal, I would like to lose 36 more pounds. I'll be happy when I have lost 20 total. That is my comfort zone. To lose 36, I would be at a weight that I have always wanted to be.

I loved your post illy! Thank goodness you came back to Atkins before you got to be 100 pounds overweight! I worked in an office where every friday was donut day and any overtime meant Pizza and every lunch was take out and every other day it was somebody's birthday complete with cake. It's so easy to mindlessly eat in an environment like that and the pounds keep on coming on!

Thank you, Sadie =) Thank you, Joy =)

I agree - everyone mindlessly eats in this office! We have numerous vendors who are always trying to sweeten up our designers so they'll go for their products. The unfortunate part is all that FOOD. And it's never, ever good for you food. Christmas time is insane! I started this job a month before Christmas and couldn't believe what everyone said about all the food, but we actually brought in a buffet table to hold it all!

Rah Rah! I feel like a cheerleader! WooHoo!

                  It's my 7 day weigh in/measure in.

As of this morning, I have lost 10 pounds. Even better, I have lost 1 1/2 inches from my waist and 2 1/2 inches from my hips!!

This past spring, I bought some dressier T-shirts for work to wear with a cardigan. They are the kind with stretch to them, so I bought an XL so they wouldn't be tight. I have one of them on right now and it's too loose to look good. (It's the kind that curves in at the waist)

I wonder - I had the mock danish this morning for breakfast. I never even checked to see if that is ok for induction.

Re: Second time, after 5 years

It was 10 pounds this morning, but (yes, I couldn't stay off it) it is 11 pounds this evening! Woot!

My 17 year old son paid me the best compliment today after work. He said something to the effect of, "You know, mom, since you started this diet, you really do look a lot different."

He doesn't notice anything. That was a big deal. Now, hubby works out of town through the week. He is only home on weekends. I haven't seen him yet today, so I hope he notices when he gets home

Once in a great while our vendors will bring a veggie tray. Maybe they will get the hint soon.

I'm wearing a pair of jeans, size 14. Thing is, they have been tight as all get-out since I bought them. Today they are loose. I look forward to getting back into those 10s in the closet. Then into the 8s!!

You'll be amazed at how fast you'll drop sizes. I think i was size 14 for about 10 minutes LOL

If you do some sort of resistance training and cardio...you'll get even better results.
