  • I guess I belong here....

Started Atkins on 12/31/2005.... did great for the first few months, then got sidetracked. I guess I'm back again, not doing bad, but not where I want to be either. I lost 50 lbs, gained back 10... now want to take off another 20 to get to goal.

Any suggestions, besides just reading the book? I just need to motivate myself again, I know that... all help would be appreciated!!!

Original goal: Lose 30 lbs by Mar. 1st, 2006. I made it!!!

Calling it GOAL at this point. I'm happy with where I am now and hope to stay there, or maybe even take it down a little more.

Hi Rick, welcome to STAC! Sounds like you have done a great job in the past! I am in the same boat as you - i lost 50 last year and then went willy-nilly and gained 17 pounds back! Coming back to this board really got me motivated to starting over again, and this time for good. I am reading the book again (i think i had an older copy last time around) and taking it seriously. I bought a little "planner" that i write my goals in, my weekly changes, and thoughts. When i get to 50 lost again, i think i will start a Journal Chats journal in that forum too. I think i'll post a picture too... those before/during/after pictures give me a lot of inspiration & motivation! Keep coming to STAC and posting! It really helps...

Welcome back Rick! We're glad you're here!

I believe I had a glimpse of your success pics at one point not so long ago. Very inspiring. You must remember the overall feeling of pride, accomplishment and satisfaction that came with this lifestyle? I know how appealing it can seem to slip back into the comfort that "variety" foodchoices offer. But is it just me, or does that variety get old very quickly?

Anyway, I'm done rambling. Great to see you back. We've all been there and are glad to offer any support and encouragement we can as you get through the next few days. From then on, as you know, it's all cake (so to speak). Take care, S.

Welcome back! Something that helps me along is to pre-plan my meals and snacks and make foods that can be used for more than one meal so that I always have something on hand for those times that I don't feel like cooking.

You're definitely right... helping others is a great way to motivate yourself!!! I did learn that the first time, and now I just need to make myself do it again, and keep doing it!! Thank you for that reminder!!!!

Yep, those before/after's were what got me motivated to start this journey... along with my own before picture!!! God, I hated that!!!! Am doing much better than that now... still have a ways to go though. Thanks for the reply!

Thanks for the reply Laker... and yes, I have posted pics in the before/after's. Thanks for noticing them. I have come a long way, but this little slip has me concerned... and I need to get back to the reality that got me here to start with...

I'll make it... with a little help from my friends!

                Thank you all!!!

Re: I guess I belong here....

                  Hi Rick!

Glad to see you back today!

Is it the cravings that are keeping you from fully committing yourself back to your goal? Believe me, I can sure relate to that. I have to keep telling myself that they are temporary (last only a few minutes) and that the intensity will drop dramatically within 3 days of eating on plan. Once those 3 days are up, MAN! I feel so good about me again and find myself re-doubling my efforts so I don't have to experience those horrible cravings again.

Tangent (if you'll humour me for a minute): I quit smoking 10 days ago. It was hard. But I experienced a sugar craving recently that was much stronger than the ones I was experiencing within the first 72 hours of nicotine withdrawl. What does that tell you? It tells me that sticking with a WOE that cuts your food addictions is like detoxing your body from any other harmful drug - and carries a similar physical and emotional load for your body and mind to go through. My point? Be gentle with yourself in these first few days being back on plan. Make staying on plan your first priority, and see where that takes you. Something's stressing you out? Make that a secondary priority, if possible, for the next couple of days. I see a nice boat in your avatar... tells me you're a water creature (like me). Find time to incorporate all those things that relax you in those first crucial days. You deserve it!

You sound very concerned about what you are doing, and committed to working your way back to your goals. I'm just here to remind you that you are the same strong-willed and determined person you were when you reached your goals the last time.

See how I ramble? Good luck to you!
                  S.

Re: I guess I belong here....

Hi Rick, the only way to stay motivated is to surround yourself with your new way of eating. Read the book and come to this board and read and participate. It makes all the differance. You can't help but be excited and motivated if you are reading and posting and staying excited about your way of eating.
You have done so great in the past, you know you can do it. Many of us starting over have never lost anything close to how much you have, that is awesome, so you know you can do this again, you already have been successful before, what inspired you that time, what kept you motivated ? What do you look forward to the most when you get the rest of your weight off ??
You might think about starting a chat journal if you do not have one yet and journal every day. It is so nice to look back over time at your progress.Read others journals, read the success stories, it all helps so much. I need to get better about writing in mine every day, I do think it helps a lot to do that.
I look forward to watching you get to goal, good luck and welcome !!!

                        Hey Rick,
You did come back, after all, when it was time, you came back....to what you know works for you, right, that's why you are hear right. That was probably your most powerful turn, to return to what works for you. That's why I am here. This works for me, I know I have to work it. I know the work is my part of the deal, but I am so glad that Atkins is here, because for me, it works. You knew where to turn! That is such a big deal!!!

Thanks again everyone for the encouragement.... And yes, I do know what works for me, and that is atkins. Low carb and exercise is my answer, and I know that I have to embrace it if I ever want to get to goal.... and, YES, I do want to get to, and stay at, GOAL!!!! I'll get there... and to be honest I am already extremely happy about where I am today. last Christmas when I saw pictures of myself I was repulsed.... today I can look at pics and smile. I've come a long way, and I'll never ever go back to that bad place!!!! This place is my tool to make that happen.

Again, thank you all for responding!!!! And, I'll try to keep everyone posted on my progress.. and progress it will be!!!!
