Well day 3 was great - I didn't cheat all day, walked a total of 2 miles before work and on my breaks, went to the gym and worked out for an hour, but then it all went to crap about 3 am when I woke up wanting sugar. I was weak. I ate both a chocolate chip cookie AND an iced pop tart! What tha'...??? Does anyone else have the occassional "middle-of-the-night struggles"? That is the main time that I crave sweets and I am so tired, or foggy headed I guess, that I don't have what it takes to say "NO!". It all began when I was pregnant with my now 7 year old daughter. I would wake up in the mornings with a snack cake wrapper beside the bed and not remember until I saw it that I had even gotten out of bed and eaten it! I don't know if I should buy some sugar free cookies to keep on hand in case of my once or twice a week late night emergencies...HELP! Also, can I stay on induction from here and call myself being at day 4 or am I starting all over at day 1 now that I have cheated?

Re: Day 3 Update - I need help!
Yikes! That would freak me out to find wrappers by my bed and know remember eating it! I put those kinds things in very hard to reach places - even if the kids want them it's a work out and it cuts down on their munchies too. They are treats, not a food for daily living
For the most part, we don't have snack cakes. I do buy the things that really don't tempt me - icecream and cookies. The icecream is in the outside freezer and the cookies are way in the back of the lower swing out pantry
So far so good! We always have fruit and nuts and peanut butter crackers and chips and dips. Snack cakes go way too fast in this house.
Pick up where you left off and continue on!

Re: Day 3 Update - I need help!
I used to do that when I was pregnant. Go downstairs at like 3 in the morning and eat one or two bowls of cereal. It's dangerous because you are not awake enough to stop yourself. By the time you realize what your doing it's too late. Can you put something induction friendly out on your counter that you like to eat? Maybe you will be satisfied eating that instead? Also ditch whatever it is your finding in the middle of the night. It's probably better if it's not there for you to find. It's hard to stop ourselves when were not even awake yet

Re: Day 3 Update - I need help!
I have never been a middle of the night eater, though DH battled that for some years and even now occasionally I find him downstairs after midnight.
I would suggest that you take the advice of the above poster and make something induction friendly to keep on hand. Like the mock danish, or the cream cheese clouds. You could also have a cup of tea sweetened with splenda (I do this on occassion). If a cup of chicken boullion.
I would not start over on induction. I would just move forward. You are making changes to your lifestyle and had a slip-up. It is not a failure, just a set back. Keep going! I would call this day 4.

Re: Day 3 Update - I need help!
Thank you all so much for the advice! This second time around club is fantastic! I will definitely whip up something sweet that is induction friendly to keep on hand just in case. I am going to search the menu site right now.

Re: Day 3 Update - I need help!
I agree with Sarah's suggestions of things to keep at arm's length. Bouillion worked for me. Thing is, you most likely were at the transition point between glycolysis (running on carbs) and ketosis (running on fat), which can be a very real low energy, high craving challenge. The cookie and pop tart likely contained enough carbs to keep you in glycolysis for another day, so you will have to face this low point all over again, once your body depletes these carbs. If I were you, I'd try to burn them up ASAP, and keep full as possible with bouillion, water, & fats with some protein until the ketosis kicks in, at which point the cravings should disappear and energy levels increase.~Susan

Ok, this is amazing, to see the "seasoned leaders" weigh in on the 3am sugar attacks and say, "keep on going," don't start over....be prepared for a delay in flipping the fat burning switch, well this could be such a pinnicle moment in your whole induction!
I hear in the mentality of our lead speakers, "think lifestyle and long term"...
I have a feeling it comes from the very long post written yesterday that tips our chins up and asks us to look forward and outward, not just down at the immediate and perfection in that immediate...
This is a moment where I feel a wise bit of grace swirling through the thread! It's a wonderful breeze, can you feel it, ladies.

Re: Day 3 Update - I need help!
This happened to me too, but long before I was on Atkins. I had gone to a birthday party, and brought home a slice of the birthday cake and left it in the fridge. The next day, I wanted to eat it...and it wasn't in the fridge. I looked in the trash can and saw a crumpled up piece of aluminum foil I'd wrapped the cake in. Apparently, I'd eaten it in my sleep.Originally posted by RachelnLaYikes! That would freak me out to find wrappers by my bed and know remember eating it!
I know this is a bit off topic, but it sure weird to wake up and find you've eaten something!~Lisa

It's even wierder to wake up thinking you've eaten a lot of something you shouldn't, only to discover it was really only a nightmareOriginally posted by jcapulet
