  • Disappearing Symptoms?

Hey has anybody noticed disappearing symptoms? Cravings, irritableness, fearfulness, restlessness, sleeplessness, constant fatigue, gastro symptoms, emotional symptoms...

What did you struggle with the most and is it slowly changing in that area.
I craved and was never satisfied. I never had energy for much, I had hearburn. I was always edgy or irritable. Restless all night long, have slep with TyPM for ever it seems.
Now, I feel smoothed out, calm, relaxed energized to a degree. Yesterday my daughter asked me what I want to eat after this "diet is over" I smiled, I thought, "nothing in particular"...I was amazing by that thought. I smiled and stayed quiet. I don't want to go to that place where "its over and now I can..."
No stomach problems, no restlessness. Calm waters here. (Except for yesterday). My emotions are settled in because I am doing something very positive for them...No sugar or processed carb crap.

Anybody else notice any changes. Some times we don't know what we've got until we look around...So, look around what have you found is back in your life....

      Jess,

I'm convinced sugar was making me crazy. Really. I was mean and irritable and emotional at inappropriate times. I quit the sugar and all of that went away (except for the week before TOM...Ugh.) But I can handle it being once a month as opposed to once a day!!! I also have experienced better sleep habits. No more heartburn. No more stiff neck every morning when I wake up. Waking up before the alarm goes off. Having energy throughout the day.

I could probably go on and on, but those are the biggies for me.

I don't ever want to go back to eating the stuff that not only made me FAT, but made me feel all of those other things. So, there is no "reward food" for goal time as far as I'm concerned.

        Hey Liza,
Keep reading the book, go to chpt 11 for the rules of induction and then go back and read the first 10 chapters they explain "why" and that is most helpful when you realize what this way of eating is doing for you. In induction it speaks about all the veggies you can choose from to make up a good bit of your carb count. It shows you what to avoid at all cost, and it shows you were hidden carbs are in things. It is a must read so you take the proper steps to get your body in the zone of burning fat instead of the ingested carbs. The food we eat on Atkins is moving us towards a place where I body flips from burning the carbs we eat, because we are limiting them, and we then turn to burning the stored fat for energy...
The book is the manual. It is an easy read and the first 10 chapters lay a very good foundation that you can then build your experience upon.
Hang in there girl, you are on your way!

It's the energy and the lack of cravings that makes this WOL so great. I don't know for sure but I bet you don't get that w/ a lot of the other popular diets out there. It's amazing that you can be controlled by something one week and then dismiss it without a thought the next. Yay for you!

            Re: Disappearing Symptoms?

I keep a STAT journal. I often list the things that I have noticed about my body. It's been 5 weeks since I started Atkins.. one night of reflux (due to nut consumption late at night-ick!) I sleep hard and deep! I wake up rested. I do have more energy. I have had one peroid since starting Atkins and it was so much better than previous ones. My doctor had me on iron I was so anemic and ablation and dilatation and curettage were brought up due to my heavy periods. I refused. I am curious to see how future periods are and my iron levels when I make it back to the doctor.

Emotions? Horrible time with emotions. I'm so angry all the time. Very frustrated and quick tempered. My doctor says my hormones are all okay.. was thinking menopause.. but that's not the case. Last year we were a direct hit from Hurricane Rita. We have been struggling with insurance, government stuff, paperwork, the house, getting back into a routine, etc. IT's hard. Life is just not the same. I am a control freak and my life was out of control in a very bad way! Things are better... our house was finally totalled after 10 months of hounding the insurance.. now we move on to getting it torn down or moved off the property. It never seems to end. Lots of people cannot understand my frustations - they live in their houses and life just continued on for them. My FIL passed away last November due to exposure to chemicals when he worked at a plant. It's been lots of adjustments in our family. I needed control, so I started ATkins. I can only imagine where my weight would be now if I had not made that decision. I'm an emotional eater.

I take it day by day. I have a wonderful husband and great kids who think our lives are wonderful because we are all together, and it is. It's just not the same and never will be. I don't do well with change and our lives seem to be a rolling ball of changes these days!

But overall... I'm so much better now that I'm doing Atkins!

                Re: Disappearing Symptoms?

We were hit by Rita. 129 mph winds for hours. I live 1 mile east of the airport.. so when they said "the cars are rocking and rolling in the parking lot at the airport!" I knew we were in trouble. The shingles and felt peeled off the house and that allowed water to pour down into our house through every light fixture, saturate every bed, floor, walls and then the ceiling started falling in. The attic is filled with mold, the entire house has to be gutted. It's just not worth it. I will always worry about the mold.

We lived in a FEMA camper for a couple of months. Then hubby ordered a portable building and we converted it into a house. Two bedrooms down stairs and over the bedrooms is a loft area for the youngest. On the other end is the kitchen and bathroom. Over those is the other loft area for son. Oldest daughter has bottom room next to ours. The middle is the living room/dining room. The laundry is still in the house. The portable building is at the rear of our house. The house, the patio then our mini house. We just go in the laundry room, which is at the back door of the big house, and do laundry. It's really nice. Small, but way bigger than that FEMA camper! It feels like a home We took my jet tub from the house, the toilet, the bathroom sink, the icebox (fridge), the stove, sink and put them in the mini house. We were in the process of remodeling the kitchen, so all my new cabinets are used in the mini house. It's about 480 sq feet and we have a table, loveseat, chairs in the middle section. The kids have ladders mounted to the floor and wall to get to their lofts. We have a huge AC/heater unit and it keeps us plenty cool even in the 100 degree heat. I miss the dishwasher and washer/dryer IN the house. But I'll manage. My office is another portable building. my own space We have an acre, so the kids have plenty of space and most of the time are out and about with friends. At night we all sit and watch tv, get on the laptop or talk on the phone. Normal stuff.

It's just so frustrating to see everyone else going back to normal life and we have not even begun rebuilding ours. We have been looking for land/house but haven't found anything we both like. The prices are through the roof and people are getting asking prices! yikes! We are patiently waiting and know God will bring our new place when the time is right. Until then, we take it day by day. The kids are ready for school and hubby is taking some time off to do things around here. One day... one day.. we will look back on this and have memories to tell the grandkids!

                      disappearing symptoms....

Well, lethargy has to be right at the top of the list. Even in this horrific heat, I'm running around all day long like I used to last year before I started regaining the weight I lost 5 years ago. (run on sentence? *grin*)

Another thing that has changed, but doesn't really qualify as a "symptom" is my taste in food. Even with the mock danish, I use half the amount of sweetener that it calls for because it is too sweet otherwise. My coffee (decaf, of course) is the same way - 1/2 packet of splenda instead of two spoons of sugar.

I know that my head is generally clearer than it has been in recent months. I wake easier, stay up longer and sleep better.
