    Hi everyone

Well I survived a weekend of camping with four kids and just myself - cheat free!

I was really worried about the stress factor and caving into carbs to make myself feel better, but I stayed strong. One thing that helped was that I was so busy setting everything up, making the meals, supervising swimming and playing, and then packing everything up that I didn't have too much time to eat much of anything. I just kept to my eggs, lunch meats, cheese, and barbequed meat for the whole weekend.

The only thing that is bothering me is that I am still in ketosis (sticks are dark purple, my breath is funny, and I'm not hungry) but I haven't lost anything for a week. In fact I've gained 2 lbs.

Has anyone else ever gained weight in ketosis? Is this even possible? Also, I drink over 4 litres of fluids a day and am not retaining water (no swelling in my legs, hands, etc.) Any ideas?

    Re: Survived Camping

Congrats on camping, I suspect if you can endure camping and make it thru, why you can do almost anything....if you are camping, it must be something you like. It would be a challenging situation for me! You sound like an amazing mom to take 4 kids camping.
I don't know about the keto sticks, I did not buy them this time, I sorta obsessed over them last time, using one every few hours...
I was in that, pushy demanding mindset, needing to see daily results...This time, I am trying so hard not to look for my daily changes, and focus out on my horizon...
It is a tricky deal...I bought a scale for OWL, and I will try and leave induction next week...this is day 16 for me...I have enough energy, to CONSIDER, camping!
I know someone will pop up with wisdom on the sticks...

      Thanks for the input Outback.

The funny thing is that this is the first summer I even took the kids camping. It's also the first summer since I was a kid that I have a tan. When I was younger I used to love doing everything outside (we lived right beside a lake). I always went swimming, camping, bike riding, berry picking, etc. My parents were the type that didn't let us inside if it was nice out. Then when I moved out on my own at 18, I just stopped doing everything I used to do and discovered cable TV, computers, and junk food. This is the way I have lived for the past 13 years and I wondered why I was so unhappy and sick feeling. Everyone in the family is happier and healthier now that I am more active and energetic.

Also, this morning I noticed that I lost 1lb so I am not going to worry about anything and just keep doing what I am doing. I'd love to say that I am not going to weigh for a week - but I know I'd be lying. LOL

Scales are notorious for confusing us dieters. A gain on the scale can come from water retention (for variety of reasons), added muscle weight, or bulk in your intestines, even if your body has burned off stored fat. Good reason to give more credit to the tape measure than a bathroom scale.

BTW, where's your vegetables this past weekend??

Did you get veggies in while you were gone? I gained on vacation due to lack of veggies and water. Once home, it all came off

You must live in a much cooler climate! I cannot imagine camping in this heat.

Could you be gaining muscle? It sounds like you are staying very active. Could you be close to your TOM? I've actually gained 10lbs right before mine (horror). It normally seems to come right off afterwards. A big WOW for you! Taking 4 kids camping by yourself? That's impressive!

Thanks for the replies and advice everyone.

The veggies were in short supply this past weekend due to my lack of planning. The kids had corn on the cob, carrot sticks, and hodge podge. The only veggies that I packed induction friendly was mushrooms and onions - so that was probably the reason for the 2 pound gain. As of this morning, I'm back to 163 and I've been eating my regular veg all week.

I live in Nova Scotia and I was wishing for heat over the weekend. The days were okay, but at night you could see your breath and we were sleeping in tents. I didn't want to move because something else would get cold. The kids were all swimming in the ocean (brrrr) all day and then slept all night through without being cold - for some reason.
As for the tape measure, I hate it. A couple of weeks before starting atkins I got up the nerve to measure my waist - it was 39". I just hate seeing those big numbers on the tape measure, but for some reason it doesn't bother me so much to see bigger numbers on the scale. (I know it doesn't make sense). I use a kind of pinch test on my arms and legs to see how much fat I can pinch and I can tell I am losing fat in these areas.
