I have been having a hard time exercising lately. I have a good excuse, though! I am busy! I am so busy! You just can't imagine. Or can you?
I work full time. I have two children, ages 10 and 13. They have extra curricular activities in the evenings. I know that I am the only person who has to juggle all of this, right?
I get up every morning at 6:00 a.m. I am at work by 7:30 (okay, sometimes 8:00) Then, I work all day long! I mean, a full eight hours. Whew! THEN, they make me stay there until 4:30. (In the afternoon!) and don't get home until 4:50. Is anyone else having these struggles.
NOW, that sounds all well and good, but wait a minute. Two nights a week, the little angels have karate for 45 MINUTES each time and two nights a week they have swim team for an HOUR each time. Okay, so what does that leave for me time? (don't forget homework. remember, my kids are ONLY 10 and 13 and cannot possibly do this alone!)
I suppose you are going to tell me that I could bring my exercise clothes to swim practice. Okay, so it is at the city rec center and there is a gym there and there is a walking track around the lake, but don't forget I am a stressed out Mother who doesn't have TIME. When would I talk to my buddy on the cell phone, if I exercised?? When would I catch up on the latest James Patterson book? (Okay, and to be fair and honest, ssh, I am whispering this part, I have been known to go to McDonalds for some chicken nuggets because no one is watching, certainly not you guys and I have been known to sit in the car and eat them and read PEOPLE magazine and wait for the kids.)
Oh, and I have to be in bed by 9:00 because I am so tired. Does that really add up to 9.5 hours of sleep? That doesn't sound right, but there it is!
So, I guess the bottom line is (my point being) we can make time. I am definitely NOT an advocate for letting the kids/house/ other obligations go while we "find ourself" at the gym. I believe in KIDS FIRST. However, there is the slightest possibility that when I say I don't have the time to exercise because of my kids, well, that might not be true.
