  • ugh! please help me get back on the horse!

I had been doing SO well. I was on day 11 cheat-free!

yesterday, I was realllly busy getting my stuff ready to go back to school, got a really nice haircut and was feeling really great. unfortunately, this left me little time to eat, and i made the stupid decision of driving up to drop my stuff off without having anything to eat all day.

i was feeling a little shaky in the car, and pondered stopping to get something to eat, but figured i could wait until i got to my friend's house. i get there and she assures me that they're make dinner (for 8 pm... it was 6).

the dinner? ravioli, potatos, bbq chicken. I sat there thinking about how hard i worked, and I shouldn't blow it, but I was starved. And i didn't want to make a big scene, being rude and not eating the food they prepared.

I know it sounds like I'm making excuses, but that was suchhh an impossible situation!

i guess the trick is to avoid those situations. i won't go all day without eating next time.

Yes, eat your meals and be prepared -- always anticipate that other folks are not going to have what you can eat. That way if they do, then what a nice surprise.

Come back on the wagon...we'll all help you over in the our challenge thread. It happens to everyone; just never give up.

You hit the nail on the head there, girl! This is great ~ you had a challenging experience, and you learned from it. And what is even better ~ you came here and shared your frustration & thoughts, and through sharing your experience with others, you've strengthened now not only yourself, but the STAC team too!

You know what to do next time, so it is unlikely that you'll find yourself in the same situation again. I'm proud of you!!!

I get SERIOUS carb cravings when I am starving. I want to shovel in all the food I see (and all the food I could go buy at the grocery store) when I am past the point of hungry. I wouldn't suggest letting yourself go there often

I read this book "Why French Women Don't get Fat". Most of the book was not for me (eat what you want, even chocolate, but eat it in small portions on pretty little plates, walk everywhere and don't drive, etc). But the Author did make a good suggestion.

She said to always have an emergency food on you for situations like you encountered today. For her, she always has a bag of soynuts in her purse for the times there is nothing healthy around for her to eat. Personally, I keep a pack of beef sticks in my glove compartment for just those occasions. Your emergency food can be whatever nut, dried beef, or other non-parishable low carb food you can think of.

Like they say, If you fail to plan you plan to fail. So keep some emergency food in your car or bag to hopefully diffuse this kind of situation in the future.

But it happens. Life is hectic and we can not plan for every situation we encounter. Today happened...accept it...learn the lesson...and move on

Bee I think you get it. Now move forward from here, not another bite of bad stuff, just keep moving forward. Get up and go after today, Sat. just like it was any other day on Atkins, think long term, think, "lifestyle"...in real life, you dust your self off and go on...Don't give this moment in time any more power or allow it to change everything, just step over it, and have a great Saturday, doing all your Atkins things, and it will all take care of it's self...

I think there is a huge difference between someone who looks at the tempting food and says, ah, to h--- with it, I am just gonna eat it" and the person, stuck out there straving, with out the right foods and has a need to eat now.
Need and Want are very very different.. We also know which we are operating out of.
Bee, this sound so much like the desperate need to eat now side, not the "who cares I am gonna have what I want, and NOW"...
Want and Need.. We should treat the "needs" very carefully, preplanning and using this experience to EQUIP you...."Want" well we should be merciless with that puppy, and never give it voice, because it does not WANT Atkins....

Live an learn. Expect the unexpected. You did the best you could with what you had. After not having anything to eat all day, you had some carb lee-way. It's not something that happens every day. Consider what you ate as your carb limit and move on

I had to giggle at their food choices.. carb, carb and protein. No veggies? I tend to notice things like that more now. And colors. And textures. I'm a visual eater, no doubt!
