  • Monday check in, Goodmorning STACers

It's monday, a brand new day to enjoy!
I am good, long weekend, lots of work, made it through.
Been thinking about my approach to Atkins...
here is my blog from my journal:
"I am one of those people who buys the book, goes right to the chapter that explains the bottom line, adopts the parts I like, and expects a miracle. I adapt to Atkins so well, because I think I like fats more than sugars. I loved the parts in the book that explains what was wrong with my body and what this way of eating will do. I am highly motivated by the flipping of the switch and lipolosis...yet I have no keto sticks... I am fired up with feeling better...But this time, inlight of this gift to be locked in, I want to move past my induction knowlege and embrace the whole book.
Today I focused on pgs 193-94 "How NOT to do Atkins"..Basically DON'T USE IT, adopt it as a way of life. "USING" causes us to make very short term agreements with the things we like in a plan" "Adoption is to embrace the whole thing with no turning back." Using is not a fix it. It's not to be played with on the week days and ignored on the weeked...You can mess things up playing with that Metabolic Switch!!!!

Knowledge is power, and I need the power, baby to keep walking the walk. I want to adopt. I want to make room in my life, and intimately work with all the of the program. My goal this week it to buy the book, because at this point I still cannot find my original copy and have been working off a library copy. I want to keep reading and working. I will get some keto sticks. I will use these tools to keep me within the boundaries of the program. I want to work with the program, not taylor it to me.
Dr. A says you will not be a success if you just stay in extended induction, you need all 4 phases and the skills to succede....
Knowlege will be power for me here."

I will be lurking through out the day, have a great one, stay true! We can do this.

Re: Monday check in, Goodmorning STACers

Today is a bit of a downer so far because we are having thunderstorm weather and I won't be able to ride my bike.

Oh well, it will give me time to try and figure out how to make the bike and trailer safer for my kids to ride in. I'm starting to think that people are actually trying to hit us when we are driving down the road. It's making my chosen form of excercise very difficult because I am worried about my kids safety. I think I will go to the dollar store and get some blinking lights for the trailer and maybe make a sign for the back of it. Anyone else have any ideas on how I can get cars to be careful when passing me on the road?

Thanks for the post Outback! I think I've finally been convinced to move out of extended induction and into OWL (although I'm still a little leary). I'm gonna add my 5 grams of carbs in the form of more green string beans with butter and salt, since I love them. I'm happy with the way that I've been losing weight and changing my body so far, but everyone is right, if I don't move on I will not learn to eat properly for the rest of my life.

    Have a great day!

Re: Monday check in, Goodmorning STACers

I'm working on OWL and sometimes it is very frustrated. I tried going up each rung, adding the 5 carbs. I never could get them all in at 30 carbs. Then TOM came. So I went down to 25 carbs and have done pretty well. After getting the book last weekend, I realized I wasn't as strict on Induction as I should have been. ARGH! I had berries and nuts. They never bothered me and I continued to lose.

After this week, I will again try to up my carbs.

I do have a question. Dr. A says you can find your carb limit by upping the carbs and seeing where you stop losing weight. Bump back down and there is your limit to continue losing. Then on pre-maintenance he says to start adding back 10 carbs. How can you add in 10 if you are already at your limit? I'm so confused. Does your limit change as you move onward?

Rachel, go back and re-read the phase 2, pg 146, and concentrate on just that step, avoid further chapters info...read chp14 a couple of times. I says to go up one rung at a time for a whole week, and see if you are still loosing. I remember when I started Atkins. I loved the 1-10 chapters and I went directly to ch11 to get started. I keep going back and studying and making sure about induction...then I would bounce back to that overview...I keep returningo to all the induction in formation in ch 11, 12, 13... Keep re reading, it will lower confusion. Don't mix it with phase 3 yet....

Way to go "So far" you are being very proactive with the bike and finding ways to overcome the challenges of it. If you have stairs in your house, maybe you could walk up and down, counting your steps and joing a stair climbing challenge for Indoor days...

Morning STACers, and good afternoon to you East coast time zoners...

Well, sofarsogood, i'll be joining you in moving onto OWL today! Sarah and i talked about it a lot this morning, and between her great advice, and now reading Jess' post (Thanks, Jess!), i am ready to move on. Ahhh... i am a little nervous, i've never been on OWL before, only extended induction, so this will be interesting. I am nervous about it "slowing down" my weight loss, however, it is moving so slow on extended, it is like, why not try? Can't be much slower than what i am experiencing now. So i'll try this week and see how it goes...

I hope you all have a great day. I have to do some errands this morning and then i HAVE to start exercising again (i took three days off since i've been sick) and today i have to force myself to get back on track with working out, even though i still feel like i am dragging...

            Talk with you all later!!!

I have read until I'm blue! It says to go up one rung a week unless a food is new to you, then only eat it three times during that week and eat the foods you are used to the rest of the week. what happens if you get to a rung and have not had any of the foods? How do you work that? LOL

I read ahead to understand and whole picture and hoping it would answer the questions I had about OWL. Alas.. I go from totally having a plan to not knowing what to do LOLOL

Hey Rachel, here's another idea...sometimes things in books just hit your head the wrong way and you just don't get it, or your question is not answered completely and my information might not be helpful either...Go to the Ongoing Weight Loss and Pre-Maint. forum, and ask there, I bet someone can make is clear up and make alot of sense...
Off to crunch some cukes....and a lettus and turkey sandwich...which basically is a lettus wrap...i live for them!

Re: Monday check in, Goodmorning STACers

Jenna, I loved that we wrote down our names, I got out my trusty little spiral ntbook and looked up your name...Girl, heres my thinking, and believe me I am with you on all of this. When you are ready to step, it's a gooooddddd step! It teaches us how to add food, and monitor it. We use the scales to monitor the new food, we start moving back into the real world with real foods and we find out what we can eat...
When you sense it's time to go, it's a good step...It will mature your eating plan.
One day your little Luna (sorry if I have the wrong name or the wrong child with the wrong mother, my apologies....) will need to get up and step out. She will be afraid, you will be afraid, but hopefully there will be a Dr. ATkins book for dealing with the real world, LOL just kidding...
It's scary leaving all we know and are successful at. I have stepped out of induction in my book reading and am reading over and over about OWL. This is huge. I bought the scale. I will weigh once a week, TO LEARN MY BODY FLOWS. I will pay attention to what happens right before, during and after my period! I will write down my observations. I never ever thought of stepping on the scale to learn about how my body does things. There might be a gradual weight loss, or I might go up and down based on my TOM, but soon I will know that if it's near the cycle, "of course I always go up about now, no big deal...it will go back down"...This time I am going to use knowlege to learn about my body, to cope with the next step and to prepare to succede at all 4 steps. I am not repeating the last few expereinces, because I don't want to work this hard and end up right back where I ended up last time.
YOU CAN DO IT. If Now is that time, read and step calmly with confidence...Hey take us along the journey with you,

Re: Monday check in, Goodmorning STACers

Thanks, Jess! I appreciate your words, as always! (And yes, Luna is my little one!!!)

It is a little scary moving on to OWL, but i do think this is the best thing to do right now. And i have ADBB to help me along the way, so later on i'll be getting onto the OWL boards and hitting them up for information, i am sure! I've been on extended for so long now (since last year really, not counting the few months that i went off the track completely) and i know that for me personally, staying on extended for too long is a recipe for disaster. So... here i go!

You'd all be proud of me today ~ i exercised! Woo-hoo! It was so hard... i cannot even tell you how hard it was. I am still feeling under-the-weather today, but i knew that i had to just do it or i'd seriously stop for awhile. (I am an all-or-nothing kind of gal, you know!) So it is done... i did the Firm and it kicked my size 18 butt... ha ha ha.

I hope you are all doing well today. I didn't see if Sarah had written yet on the board, but i do know that she is busy at work today, so if she hasn't yet, no need to worry - sometimes things get super busy for her and she can't check in. She should find out this week about that job, and i am so excited for her! Let's keep those prayers & positive thoughts up for our ADBB friend!

Outbackjess - thanks for the encouragement! I really wished I didn't live in a bungalow or that would be a great idea.

Dragonfly - Good luck on the OWL, I know I'm going to need it. I already messed up, like I was afraid of. Once I decided this morning to move on to OWL I decided to make broccoli, bacon, chedder salad for lunch. Well, I made it like I always do with two small heads of broccoli, and then guess what......I ate the whole freakin' bowl of it!!!! Why, oh why, do I do this. As soon as I think about changing something, even something as simple as going from induction to OWL- I just become out of control.

I've been thinking of a system too. Something to check off. Was thinking of printing up the 5 carb foods and laminating it. Then stick it on the fridge. I can check them off or scratch through them daily and wipe it clean. Use those erasable marker thingies.

I may have to give it a try. I hate to flip through the book always lookign for amounts. This way it would be right there.
