  • Excited - great find!

I can't believe what I found yesterday in Dollarama. Dr. Atkins New Diet Cookbook - for a dollar! I bought one for all my friends and family who have started Atkins since I did, or who say they want to soon. FOR A DOLLAR. The only little problem with it is that a few of the recipes use Atkins Bake Mix which you can't buy here anymore, but I looked at the recipes and I think you could substitute flaxflour or pork rinds for most of them. Of course, I love the recipes here because real people have tried and tested them but it's nice to have another reference to go along with DANDR.

My little freak out yesterday because of the broccoli, bacon salad was for nothing. I was just worried that it was going to start a downward spiral, but it didn't. I'm still in ketosis and this morning was down another .2 lb (TOM is right around the corner too). Speaking of TOM (I usually call it MY FRIEND) does anyone find that after doing Atkins for an extended period of time their PMS symptoms get any better? I know my skin is not breaking out as much even though it hasn't even been four weeks.

Hope everyone is doing and feeling great today!

Glad the broc. didn't mess you up!!

TOM. Yes, I have found my PMS is way better. Breakouts too. This last period I didn't even feel crampy a few days before and no bloating. The second day was a killer, but compared to 5 days killer before this WOE... I'd say they have improved greatly!

Wow! Great find! There was a recipe posted to be a copy of the Atkins mix:
    1 cup soy flour
    2 cups soy protein isolate
    2 tablespoon baking soda
    1 teaspoon salt
    2 tablespoons Splenda

I was wondering about what to do when you can't find the Atkins Bake Mix anymore... thanks, Rachel, for the recipe!

Sofarsogood ~ i've noticed my PMS symptoms getting better, HOWEVER, i am getting this stupid *bonus* period now. It is so strange - it all began once i started doing this WOE & majorly changed my activity level. Now i get my TOM, and then a week and a half later, I GET IT AGAIN! I am so annoyed. Not to mention how annoyed my husband is...

What's up with bonus periods??? Is it because i changed things up so much?

ahhhh, I so miss Depo Provera. I was on it for 13 wonderful, TOM free years!

Anyway...as for the substitute recipe for the baking mix....just keep in mind that you can't have soy flour and soy protein until the legumes rung.

Joy - did you ever run into any problems on the depo? I think next year she will start running a bone density test. I sure hope I get to stay on it. I love that method!!!

No, never had any problems, except weight gain. Atkins is THE plan to be on if you are on Depo, IMO. On depo's packaging, it states that it interferes with your body's ability to metabolise carbohydrates.

I'm off it now, because at some point I want to get preggo....but my Dr. would have let me stay on it longer if I chose to. I've been off of it for a year and 8 months.

                    Re: Excited - great find!

Thanks for sharing Joy! So funny that I have never read the cover to see that info about carbs. Hmmm....that may be part of my problem. Since I started the depo (almost 3 years ago) I have gained 40 pounds. All right, I need to get cracking on this way of eating. I never know why I stray anyway. I am 100% sure that this way of eating is the right method for me. I feel trashy when I stray to the carbs.

Thanks for the mix recipe Rachael! I think I got a little too excited about it until I saw Joy's reminder about the legume rung (LOL).

Dragonfly - the double TOM sounds horrible. Hope it doesn't happen to me - once is plenty enough torture. I always have to suffer through 10 days of it, while my sister blithly (sp?) sails through 2 easy days. I was kind of hoping being healthier and more active might cut it down a bit.

I know! You'd think that being healthier & exercising would have helped me, but uh-uh... so here i am with double TOMs. It's Crap!
