  • Wed Morning, Check in how we doing???

Hey all, it's Wed. morning. I changed my font size cuz I got new reading glasses and I can see the icon panel up there..
    Geez, blind as a bat!!!
I am good, having a good day. Excercised on my little cardio circuit in the garage. This morning has afforded me a slow start, so I am feeling a bit more rested. So, how is everyone doing today? I think it's gonna be a great day!

My day started off slow and tired

But I am back on track with my Atikins foods (after my krispy kreme misfortune the other day )

Have steak, green beans, bacon, cheddar and pimiento filled olives sitting in my lunch container. Kind of a mutt lunch, but works for me

Re: Wed Morning, Check in how we doing???

Hi Jess and all you other STACers out there!

I am doing good today. I seem to be out of my "funk." Which is definitely a good thing. I think I may take a page from Rachel's book and slow down a bit. I'm wondering if I am expecting too much from myself right off the bat. So maybe I will take a week or two to get into the food groove, then the water, then the exercise.

I'm really concerned about a family function we have coming up Labor Day weekend. We go stay at DH's grandparents home for the entire weekend with his parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins and cousins kids. All in all, if everyone shows, we are looking at more than 30 people. The aunts and grandma do all of the cooking and cook in bulk (cheesy potatoes, pasta salads, etc.). Grandma will not be open to having another cook in the kitchen cooking her own meals. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to stay on track? There is not usually a lot of extra room in the fridge given all of these bulk foods. I may be able to get by with bringing a cooler though. What types of things would you bring if you were in my position?? This weekend has me terribly worried and has been part of my downfall in thinking these past two weeks. But I cannot continue to ignore my weight and my health needs - this weight is making me miserable. I feel like I don't even know who I am anymore.

      Thanks guys!

Sarah - It's very hard to be the mercy of others. Is there a menu planned in advance? Do you know what will be served daily? Surely there will be proteins..and hopefully veggies. Good veggies. Would they be offended if you brought salad? A cooler sounds great for cheese, cream cheese and lunch meats. Jerky is a good filler upper too. A bag of romaine hearts and some low carb tortillas to make your own roll ups? Can you keep the nonperishable things in your vehicle? Nuts, etc. Go for a ride and grab a burger minus the bun and then eat lightly during meals with everyone else? Grocery store nearby? Deli meats... cheeses..

Once they see how important it is to you they will understand. They wouldn't stop you from taking needed medications... they shouldn't hamper your needs with food either

Re: Wed Morning, Check in how we doing???

The cooler was my very first thought. Plan to buy extra ice each day. I personally would make alot of deviled eggs. I have learned this time around atkins to keep the whites and the yoke mix separated. Meaning, i put yolk stuff in the whites when I put my plate together. Pepperoni is a smart easy thing, or beef sticks. I would maybe cook up some chicken breasts and or make a chicken salad that you could hit on often. I am hitting on a cauliflower salad made up of small cauliflower flowerettes, a little green onion and sliced green olives, and mayo. I measure out a portion with dinner. I am sure there are a few salads you can handle. For on the go, I keep either salami or ham lunch meat near by and put a little cream cheese in it and roll it up, very practical and easy to pull off.
As I look at the challenge of this, there are a few things very much within your realm of control that won't bother everybody else... Maybe make your water a huge priority that weekend. Drinking all the water curbs your appetite. I would plan walks first thing in the morning, even if it's just getting outside and strolling away from the house, and breakfast cooking, with a bottle of water, and talk to yourself, give yourself some personal space to regroup for the day, and plan out your steps. I am sure others will come up with some very creative food. Fail to Plan, is planning to Fail.
I would feel much worse about my self i crashed having not tried to avert it. I would be proud I went into an impossible situation, empowered with creative ideas, and a willingness to fight for my way. That's being proactive.

Re: Wed Morning, Check in how we doing???

Wow, great ideas girls!! They should have their main protein, yes. As to veggies, they will have veggies - but it always has some included no-no mixed in. They love me, so I know they would'nt be offended. Its just more of a space issue. Plus, if there are any Michiganders around, they are "up north" so not alot of fast food restaurants around. But you guys gave me some awesome ideas. I'm loving the chicken salad, low carb wraps, regular salad - things like that. Hmm...

Ok, on to so AWESOME news!! I just got a call back on my last interview and I have a second interview tomorrow. This interview is with the Administrator and is probably the money talk. Keep your fingers crossed for me and send lots of positive vibes. This job will help me in more ways than one!!

Re: Wed Morning, Check in how we doing???

Things are going good today for me. I'm organizing school clothes and cleaning, so that should take up most of my day.

Jcapulet - your lunch sounds great to me!

Sarah - could you tell a little white lie to your family? Maybe say that your doc has asked you to cut out sugars and starches for awhile due to something like headaches or lack of energy. If not, I like all the above suggestions - I made note of them myself for when I'll need them.

Sofarsogood, I would definitely do that if needed. I don't think that will be my major problem though. They won't push food. They just won't have a lot of options available for my menu, not a lot of space to store cold foods and too many cooks in the kitchen for me to be cooking. Thanks to you guys, I think I'm coming up w/a plan. I also think I'm going to call his grandma and see "what I can bring." Maybe I could bring a veggie for the dinner nights, or bring something for the breakfast (their breakfast is usually really bad: donuts, toast, gourmet breakfast cakes, etc.).

Awesome ideas for Sarah, everyone! I think the cooler is definitely the way to go too. And of course seeing what you can bring to *share* ~ like devilled eggs & veggies. I'm sure you'll be fine - just pick and choose wisely. I remember last year's Labor Day party was an issue too - what did you end up doing last year?

Wednesday is going good over here ~ i am down another pound (thank you, OWL) and now only 1.5 to go to mini goal! Then we can have a 50 pound-loss party! Woo hoo...

What do we do at a 50lb loss party???
Jenna, don't forget to pack a plan for quiet time to stay focused with. I was thinking, if it gets terribly hard, maybe you could say to yourself "Ok, I just can't do this, but I promised myself before I take a bite, I would go buy more ice for my cooler, first. Or go take a walk, FIRST..." Have an escape plan, get yourself away from the food for just a half hour, and then, try and talk some sense into yourself....
We don't give up drinking and go to a bar for friends, once we walk thru the door, it's pretty much over. Going home to family settings, even in-laws, is like a recovering alcoholic being invited to his parents' 50th anniv. and it's in a bar...You have to go, but the exposure is gonna be tough.
Plan an escape route, out of the exposure and smells, and get Jenna's phone number...and have a life line....is that crazy? I think I would do that at this time, for sure.

Wow, 50 pounds! That's awesome!!! Aren't you loving OWL? So much variety and you still lose!

Oh! Yes, have a plan! Suddenly go to the bathroom, sneak out the door. Remove yourself from the area. Make them put all the forbidden foods at the other end of the table. I'm sure they will help you however they can

                              Morning Everyone!

Sofar - I to agree on the " white lie" It's a whole lot easier to say to someone ( especially family) when they offer you a big old piece of chocolate cake or spagetti to say my docs says to limit the sugar/starches. Then to say no thanks, I am on atkins can't have that.... because here comes the pop quiz along with 100 questions...

Failure to plan, is planning to fail - they those words echo in your head...great advice
