Good morning everyone. It is now day 11 of my induction and I have a question. I drink about 4-5 cups of tea a day. I start my day with a mug of tea sweetened with stevia. I also add 1/2 a tablespoon of coffee creamer. I do this with every meal and sometimes at night with a snack. My weight loss seems to be going well ( no scale for me yet) and the ketostix are always a dark purple. I have deided to stay on an extended induction and want to know if it would be better for me to switch to decaf?

Re: Caffeine and my induction
Bob, cut the tea and coffee out completely, decaff or caff. Have you read DANDR? Caffeine is a big no-no during induction, especially 5 cups of it a day.
During my induction, I drank cold water all the time. You will lose even more weight.
Good luck.

It never ceases to amaze me of how easy and how effective this ***diet*** is!!
I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

Re: Caffeine and my induction
Hi
Thanks for the quick reply. I have not read DANDR but do have the original DADR also the Atkins Essentials. I thought that you should avoid caffeine because it can cause unstable blood sugar and make you crave sugar. Since I am not craving sugar I thought I was fine.

Re: Caffeine and my induction
I will go caffeine free for the rest of my induction and see how it goes. I guess it can't hurt and there is only one teabag left in the house.

Re: Caffeine and my induction
In some it can affect their loss - greatly or barely. Depending on how much you want to lose weight you can decide. I also drink coffee - sometimes with caffeine and sometimes without. I'm okay with a slower loss due to it.. but it really has not affected me that I can tell
personal decision.

Re: Caffeine and my induction
you really need to get a copy of DR ATKINS NEW DIET REVOLUTION 2002 edition cause many things were changed as Dr Atkins learned more. like sweetner servings are limited to 3 a day form all sources so we give up the need and wanting of sweet treats likw your tea.
It is now known that not only does it destabilize blood sugar levels insulin also is a fat storing hormone so you don't want to store the fats you have been eating while your insulin levels are elevated from your tea. eventually it will catch up with you.by the book atkinseer

Re: Caffeine and my induction
The only time I use stevia is in my tea. By giving up one I also stop using the other. Check out my journal to see how it goes with the detoxification.

Re: Caffeine and my induction
if you get a detox headache from the caffeine withdrawal remember you can use any OTC pain med as long as it is caffien free for it.

Re: Caffeine and my induction
Hey Big Butt (your screen name makes me laugh...sorry), I am on day 13. Last week I dropped regular coffee. I had huge withdraw headaches. They passed after a few days. You will live thru it. I do however, still drink decaf. I tried a few before I found one that tasted good (Maxwell House Rich). I also drank green tea but have not had any since I started. Maybe later on in my weight loss, I will.

Re: Caffeine and my induction
Don't be sorry, it's supposed to be funny. I am going to try and make a clean break for the rest of induction. If I don't go to crazy I will try and quit all together. I gave up smoking 2 years ago and I know I can do pretty well anything as long as it's one day at a time. I have no problems with drinking water as well.

Good for you Bob. You won't regret it. Plus, you are likely to get to like water aswell.

Re: Caffeine and my induction
Just a quick update. I am now on my third day of the caffiene and sweetener detox. I find that drinking lots of water really helps me. I was never the type to not like water so I guess I am fortunate. Hopefully I can continue this into extended induction.
