  • Hello!

Hello Everyone. Just wanted to poke my head in and say Hi .

This is my thrid time on Atkins. The first one I blame 50/50 on me and Hurricane Rita. I won't put it all on her because I could have left and eaten right. Anyway... I am glad to be here and hope that I can help as much as I am being helped. Have a wonderful day!

    Re: Hello!

Getting back on... way to go!!! I just got back on myself and am really feeling good already, even though it's only been a few days. The diet & exercise are really helping. The first 3 days were a little rough (more from the exercise then the diet) but I'm reaping the benefits today. It's a good day!

Welcome to the forum. It's just great for motivation.

        Re: Hello!

        profitweb,
Girl you are motivated, early on, setting up a challenge and going for it! Wow. This is day 35 for me, and I am pretty motivated. My exercise has been good and I am starting to get more challenged work outs. I signed up for your bike challenge. I ride 10mi every other day and I might add to that abit, now that there is a challenge...I will go and figure out the monthly total, so I can keep track...I love stuff like this!

            Re: Hello!

Thanks all. Glad to be here. I hope my only membership fees I can pay with weight loss.

It is funny I see all these Challenges on here. It just so happens that I created my site called myownchallenge.com which is where I post my blog about my weight loss.

Profitweb: You seem really happy about this. I feel that you will do better if you get excitied about doing things you will make it work. I really need to get on the working out wagon soon. I was really wanting to lose a little more weight getting into my 340's or so before doing any major work outs. I currently have to walk around quite a bit at my job.

              Re: Hello!

Yep, I have to go full throttle when I do these kind of things. If I'm not obsessive I tend to let things slip when I'm changing habits. Plus, it makes me feel really good about myself when I do the diet & the exersize. I freakin' hardly moved, much less got good exercise, for the past two years! So, this is feeling good.

Koralis, walking at work is great. It would also be good if you could do some non-stop fast walking out of work too. Can you get yourself up to a sweat, with your heart pounding fast, for at least 10 minutes? The cardio exercise will really help shed those pounds faster. I would suggest using a walkman to get through those grueling 10 minutes. I doubt you get the cardio that you need at work. Also, cardio doesn't just help your heart, it also warms up all your muscles and gets them burning down those fast cells, increasing your metabolism. Riding a stationary bike can do this too. They're at garage sales all over the place (you can buy one on the last day of the sale for $10 usually, ppl want them gone). What kind of exercise would you like to do?

I work downtown (houston) so getting a parking space close to where I work is no easy task. I walk about 3 or 4 blocks to get to the office. I have been doing the walks slowly. Recently I decided to do some fast walks to work. Instead of using our tunnel system to and from the office I walk as much outside as I can because its longer to get to places.

I do not walk near my apartment complex because we do not trust the people around there anymore. I am going to start walking around one of the parks that we live near. That is next on my list to do. As bad as I know this will sound I can't do much this week as I have to house sit for my parents. My brother is comming back from USMC boot camp so they are taking a vaction up there and will be back on Sunday.

I love to walk it is one of my favorite things to do. I want to get a bike so I can ride it around. I was also thinking of getting a Treadmill. I am not sure yet which I want to get. I love bikes and love riding around on them. Just never did it because I am afraid I will break it since I am so heavy. My doctor recommened that I walk around with some 5lb hand weights.

                  Re: Hello!

Good, it sounds like you have a plan. Set a date to start! That's important. Also, I'd do your fast walking without the weights at first. See how you do without them then add them in so as to not overdo things right off. See how long it takes you to break a sweat, then walk 10 more minutes FAST, then do a little slow to cool down. Your body will dictate how much it can take. If your joints hurt like you have the flu after exercising, take a day or 2 off then start again. The pain probably won't come back. I just experienced this when I started exercising after being extremely sedentary for 2 years. I didn't feel just like I had sore muscles, I felt like my elbows & knees had arthritis! Okay, keep an eye out for a used bike or treadmill. There are sturdy models out there.

I have what I think is a plan. It could always be better.

I know how it is to just be sitting for 2 years. I worked Help Desk for a long time before I got to the job I am in now (Desktop Support / Server Support) so I do end up walking a lot of time. 51 different sites and atleast 5 of them are jails.

The reason I said I should get the weights. My Dad did a heart stress test recently. The doctor mentioned that his heart was a little more effecitant(sp?) at beating. He believes that mine is the same. I do not get my heart beat up easily. Unless I run then it starts to beat. I don't want to run now and end up hurting a joint or something. The reason the doctor says that I maybe the same is I and my father are both overweight. He is only 50 pounds less then I am. Same height and everything. Except he smokes and I don't.

I know I need to pace myself. Right now I can walk to my office from where I park with no problems. Its very easy. My tall co-worker can out walk me so he walks fast and makes me keep up with him. Thanks for the suggestions. I need all of them I can get.

Good. I just didn't want you to overdo. The goal is to get your heartrate up right now, so do whatever it takes to do that (without hurting your muscles). You're going to do great!

Welcome! After living thru Hurricane Rita and having it totally twist my life around, I decided not to let it control me anymore. Depression and anger, I had enough. Gaining control of my eating has helped me in so many ways. Taht control spreads throughout other places in your life.

                        Best of luck to you!
