  • Goal obtainable?

mmmk y'all today is day 1 of the rest of forever
I have my goals set as losing 15 lbs at a time in sections.
My first "I reaaaally want this by this date" Goal lol is
by October 26th. That day i'm flying down to Tx where I grew up to go to ren-fest with my friends. Ever since I was like 12 years old, we all went together every year. At the one in Texas you go camp there overnight, and we'd always have a big circle of tents with all my friends and it would be a big traditional weekend thing. Well I missed last year because I moved out of state, and this year may be the last time we can all go together, cause we're all getting older and moving away and people are getting married etc.
So I made a point a Year ago to go this year. My best friend (who recently got married and moved to virginia) couldn't afford to go though, so I bought her a ticket on a plane AND bought myself a ticket, so now we're both flying down to texas for a long weekend to spend with our friends.

Some of them I saw about a year ago, but most of them I haven't seen in 2 years. I think no matter what I do I will still be the same weight (if not 10lbs more) than the last time they saw me, but i want to lose as much as I can before that trip. If I theoretically lost 14lbs the first 2 weeks, that would give me another 5 weeks to lose another 15lbs to get down to around 30 lbs. I'll still be above 200 though Pooh. They never saw me at my lowest weight, I think I was 212 last time I went, or somewhere around it.
Anyway that oughtta give me like 3 lbs a week, that sounds about normal right? I plan on working out like a fiend too, so I know that might effect my weight also...

I hate to deflat your bubble..but... you really need to do this for YOU. Not to impress someone. This is who you are. So be it. You didn't like it so you are changing it. Do it for yourself. Do it because you love yourself that much to make changes. Your friends love you no matter what. They WILL be proud of you for making a choice to better yourself. But do it for yourself. You ARE worth it

I don't mean to be a bubble burster, either, but one of the best ways to set yourself up for failure is to set certain goals that you plan to reach by certain dates.

So very often folks don't make those goals, and get discouraged. They figured they weren't successful, and use that as an excuse to jump off the wagon. When, in fact, they have lost weight (success!), but it wasn't as much as they think (so they think failure).

Do feel free to set yourself weight mini-goals, and when you reach them, give yourself a special non-food reward. As you continue to lose, you'll find the pounds come off more and more slowly -- this is quite normal; so, determining how much you'll lose in a given amount of time is virtually impossible. Please don't go that route.

Plan on a wonderful trip to Texas, and go, knowing that however much you've lost, you have succeeded in moving toward that final destination.

      Wishing you all the best,
      -Chris

keep working out and working your WOE so you will be a smaller healtheir you by that date. you will be wearing smaller clothes then today and much better physical conditon and you will know it inside of you even if you don't make those scale weight numbers your clothes size will be smaller. Have you measured your inches now so you will also know how many feet of you you have lost?

I didnt mean for my post to sound like I was doing it for anyone else, or that i'd get discouraged and give up if Im not X size by X date. Its simply an extra motivating factor.

it is just that we have seen so many new to Atkins and ADBB folk set up a by a date goal and then get frustrated and even desperate if they aren't close to it by close to that date. just make your goals and leave the dates off them then when you get there wooo hooo I'm X with no deadlines involved. those high carb sireens will put enough presure and stress on you as they call your name from hiding when you least expect them too.

I understand. But many times people set themselves up for failure without even realizing. Setting a time limit to lose weight is asking for trouble, in my opinion. You get fixated on that date, stressing and having anxiety if you do not meet your goal. Ten pounds this month will come off faster than 10 pounds six months down the road. Perhaps setting a set amount by whatever time it takes? Like 2Big said, eat right, lose weight and inches and you will feel better about yourself. Feeling good about yourself gives you a glow A glow they will notice more than they would a weight.

I personally am anti-numbers. So. If you're working out like a fiend, and you're lifting weights along with doing cardio and everything, let's say that you end up wearing a size 16 at 220 versus 210. This is possible. You and I are the same height... so when I weighed 170 and didn't exercise I was around a 16. I weigh *cough217asoflastweekcough* and wear a 16 now. You know what I'm saying? I'm not saying that there's a better way to set your goals, I'm just saying that if you go to Texas and you are thinner, even if you weigh more, isn't that more rewarding? I don't think this answers your question at all though.

                  Re: Goal obtainable?

Kib, I am watching this thread, I can relate to what every one is saying...the clothes are your ticket, fitting in ones you are the most comfortable by the time it's time to go...
I think you are organized, and motivated, and that your trip is going to be great...I think you will be in a good place if you keep up the work...YOu are gonna have a blast.
What every one is concerned about is "living for that moment". doing everything for that moment, and then crashing before it or after it...It's kinda like creating this larger than life mountain, and you share from your enthusisam and every one is trying to bull doze the mountain down, level it off, making it just another part of life...so you don't fall off of it...
I have dieted for trips and I can't say I have come back from very many of them, still on the diet and certainly I cannot remember returning to a diet, as a WAY OF LIFE...but when it comes to carbs, I will have to deal with them as a way of life...
I want to encourage you to plan just as hard for this WOL on the trip, and for when you come home and the let down comes, plan to make your WOL still in your life.
You can do this, you are strong and motivated! Take all these words as wisdom, for most all of us have done this.

                    Thanks for all the advice.
I wish i'd spent more time being thinner way back when then i'd know what size i'd expect to be at what weight. When I was at/around 180-190 I was a very loose 14. It might have just been those pants, who knows. I rememeber how annoying that wasy because they were too big but I couldnt quite get into 12's, and that was going to be my big success, I probably haven't been a 12 since I WAS 12 lol lol
