  • I keep telling myself..

that fat is important! The scaled bobbed up and down. I looked over my food log. Hmm.. veggies, proteins, berries, dairy, nuts... fat seemed to be missing.

    FAT!!!!

I began trying to incorporate a little fat each time I ate and voila! The scale moved DOWN this time

What ways do you make sure and get your fat in?

Yesterday was a good example, for me. I had a beautiful flounder fillet. After cooking it, though, I realized that it, along with my vegetable, just didn't contain enough fat. So, I decided that what I needed was "tartar sauce." I made my own by mixing mayonnaise and sugar free (Mt. Olive) pickle relish. The result tasted just like tartar sauce, had very few carbs, and gave me the fat that had been missing from the meal.

That fish was delicious, by the way!

That's a great idea. I eat a lot of broiled talapia and it never dawned on me to make my OWN tarter sauce. Thanks!!!

        Re: I keep telling myself..

I like starting the day with some fat and protein, so just about every day I have 2 fried eggs at work and some turkey sausage. I take a mayo packet and spread it on top of one egg, then put the other egg on top of that. I've decided that eggs with mayo is becoming one of my favorite breakfast foods for some reason, and its a good tasty way to get some fat in with breakfast.
Other ways I add fat is adding oils to my salad and butter to veggies.

            Re: I keep telling myself..

I wish i had a problem getting fat into my diet... it seems like i am attracted to the fatty foods & i have to actually watch to keep it just to the required 65%!!! After starting to use Fitday and actually LOOKING at what i am consuming each day, i realize that i need to work on keeping the fat down... i have been at around 70% on some days! Horrible!

Obviously I haven't been reading my bible...I mean my DANDR closely enough. Our daily intake is supposed to be 65% fat? Are you talking about a fat fast or day to day? I'm going to go look at the book right now, but if someone could point me to the right direction as far as what chapter that would be great.
I'm pretty sure I need to up my fat intake if day to day is the case. Good thing I love mayo.

Here is a great post about how much fat we need.
During induction we are shooting for APPROX 65% fat, 5% carb and 30% protien. Then as you climb the rungs the protein will stay about the same and the carbs go up and the fat will do down. Now because you are adding only 5 grams of carbs at a time the fat % drops slowly. At least that is my take on it. Read this great post http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ad.php?t=17102
