  • What's Your Favorite Affirmation?

HELLO OUT THERE ATKINEERS I WAS JUST WONDERING WHAT YOUR FAVORITE AFFIRMATION WAS? WHAT GETS YOU THROUGH THOSE CARB CREEPS? WHAT DO YOU SAY TO YOURSELF WHEN YOUR STANDING IN THE MIRROR TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO WEAR? LAST BUT NOT LEAST WHAT DO YOU SAY IF YOUR TRYING TO ENCOURAGE SOMEONE WHO'S NEW AND DOES'NT HAVE A CLUE? I WAS JUST WONDERING. I FOUND MINE JUST NOW. I PUT IT IN MY SIGNATURE SO THAT I CAN BE REMINDED EVERY DAY.

    Hey there Thinner,
I am a huge self talker. The big ones are, (when facing a stall, which I am in) I tell myself, "At least you are in Ketosis, and you are burning your fat!!! I tell myself I am powerful, I choose my course every day. I tell myself God has given me a measure of grace for this hour, and I am to protect it, and cooperate with it. When things are at their worse emo wise, which was yesterday, I tell myself all the time, "this day will pass, it's just emotions and I can live above them, they don't have influence on my choices.

I love yours, we do need to apprehend that strength from Christ, and walk in it.

Thanks for starting this thread, I will come here and be motivated by others.

      Re: What's Your Favorite Affirmation?

Good Thread! I have a lot of different responses. When I have to go to a resturant with someone and I really want a high carb item I tell myself that it will only make me happy for an hour at the most then I will be sick.

When I look in the mirror to get ready for the day and choose what to wear (which is very easy for me since I am a male and assigned a uniform) it is always I look better then I did yesterday.

To encourage a new person either on the boards or in some other area who is new to Atkins. I always point out what THEY want to do. Because to be honest I can encourage someone until I am blue (or green) in the face. The fact remains is that it is your choice to do something. Not that I am a professional in this field. I feel that people will tell you why they want it. We just have to remind them and be there to help them accomplish it. That is why I love introductions because people will usually tell you WHY they want it. As an encourager we take that and use it in examples that fits a situation. With a new person does good I always try to give them a postive outlook.

I know that was a little long. Sorry. Short story is to encourage someone I remind them of what they wanted.

Korelis, it's pointing people back to their own inner motivations...Inner motivation is really the topic here, and it's very very hard to go the distance on the external motivations, we need our own inner drive, something brought each of us to this place. Something caused us to rise up and step out of the orbit we were in, it's that place we go to and touch over and over and over again, to propel us in the opposite direction...I think you have made me see this a bit more clearly today and I like how you go and meet the newbies...and point thembackto why they are here.
I am here to change my life, and be in a much better healthier place when I turn 50 in march. I am here, because I have led myself and my 15 yrold to a very unhealthy place...I am giving up the old relationship with foods and moving to new places and new insights and disciplines...

Jess: VERY Good point on the inner motivation. It is such a ture statement. Without that we will not do well. We can accomplish so much if we have the drive. Sometimes we get down low and need those around us to tell us that it will be okay because we have done so much now that we didn't think we could do when we first started. When we first start we always want to see the end so quickly so we don't lose that determination that comes with the motiviation.

I thank you for the compliment I truely do. I am just doing what you, profitweb, and other ADBB's would do for me in a heartbeat. We may not know each other personally but we have a common goal and a common lifestyle.

With that said I think our word of the week needs to be inner motivation.

PS: Jess your turning 50? You do not like 40. More in your 30's if you ask me.

"Whatever it takes." Not just to lose the weight cuz I've already done that .. (5 years into maintenance) .. but whatever it takes to keep it off. Whatever it takes to be the best I can be for the rest of my life. Whatever it takes never to be the slacker I once was. Whatever it takes never to feel older than I really am. Whatever it takes to run my next marathon at age 51.

              Mine is, "I have to."

I have to do this. I have to diet, and I have to exercise. It does not matter if I like it or hate it*. I have do it for me, my husband, and my health. I have to encourage others who choose this WOE.
Everything else that comes along with weight loss is a wonderful bonus and reward.

*Although I love the Atkins' diet, still need to keep at it for my life.

                Re: What's Your Favorite Affirmation?

Betty, I love your new picture. You are fantanstic. What an inspiration.

This is a good thread. I tell myself that I am my own best friend. I have to treat myself the way I would treat her. I have always been very good to my friends, loving and supportive. By giving that to myself, I am becoming a better person.

One thing that I have done lately, maybe this is off topic, is that i have learned how to leave work behind at the end of the day. I have a stressful job (don't we all...) and for many months, I have brought problems home and worried and fretted over them. Poor dh... NOW, I leave it at the door. It is easier said than done, I know, but all the way home ( i have a 20 min commute) I start shelving things. For example, it bothered me that we didn't meet the last deadline, so I write it down, what I can do to help that next time and then I put it on the shelf. I leave it there until time to go to work the next morning and then i bring it out again. It has helped me a great deal!

I hope that didn't sound too convoluted!
                149.8/no weigh/ 119

                1st goal: 139 (earlier weight)
what the rungs mean to me:
                rung 1 - more veggies
rung 2 - dairy (some milk in coffee)
rung 3 - seeds, nuts (mostly sprinkled on salads)
                rung 4 - berries, melon
                rung 5 - wine -
                rung 6 - beans, hummus
                rung 7 - other fruits
rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)
                Major Goal - 128 lbs/ healthy range
                (on to pre-maintenance)

                  Re: What's Your Favorite Affirmation?

                  Hi there,

Yours is mine. Philippians 4:13. I have it on my desktop and on my mind always. I should say that I never felt it okay to pray for weight loss...like praying to be rich or something. Although, if you had a child and your child was fat and you knew that your child was facing a lifetime of physical and mental suffering because of a correctable (hopefully) physical condition you would pray for your child's wellbeing. And yet why is it so hard to ask for your own wellbeing? The Bible continually teaches to turn to God for your needs so I finally did and have found that His strength is beyond anything I could have hoped.

I do use other techniques also.....when I am tempted I will visualize myself eating the forbidden food...the biting, chewing, swallowing and tasting everything as if I'm truly eating it and experience the let down feeling I would feel if I had really done it. I might picture it in my stomach and my insulin going haywire. It puts it in perspective. I don’t know if you have had eating dreams, but it’s like the devastating feeling you get in the morning when, for a second, you think you really did it.

I used to have the eating dreams too, prissy, and it really just feels wierd!

For myself, I like to look at my life before, how I grew up as a heavy kid and very heavy awkward teenager...I don't want to be like that anymore. My main motivation is my health and my husband. I like to look in the mirror and picture what I would look like in something like a new Victoria's Secret skimpy piece! Or something really cute to wear to work...it really helps me to imagine what I will look like. I have never BEEN thin, so it's hard to know what I will feel like... but I do know what it's like to feel bad about eating something bad....grrr!

My good friend called me yesterday and I talked with him about my efforts to lose weight and keep it off, as I always do, lol....he advised "Worry less about the end result and time required to get there. Determine that this is a life change... never stop taking care of yourself this way and results will come."
