  • DANGER of restarting Atkins.

I will have to say the thought never even occurred to me that there would be a danger in restarting Atkins. I had been through this before and knew it would work if I put the effort into it.

The danger? The danger comes from having done this before. The danger comes from the fact that last night...6 days into induction...I had a really craving for some peanut butter. REAL BAD CRAVING! I had almost caved I am sad to say. Had it all justified in my head. I mean, afterall, I had done induction before...I had already added peanut butter last time so I knew it didn't affect me so what would it hurt to just have a spoonful? A couple of times this week I have had a craving for something. While I am glad it has been for legal food (isn't that cool?), and it has been food that I know won't affect me, it is a danger I will have to guard against until I get to that rung.

What stopped me? I realized if I ate that one spoonful of peanut butter that besides letting myself down I would have to do 1 of 2 things. I would have to get on here and admit that I cheated or I would have to get on here and lie about how wonderful I was doing. Neither sounded good to me. So I managed to walk away...have some more water and checked my email. WHEW!

And after today's 1 week weigh in of 10 pounds down I can say that I sure am glad I did!!!!!

The TRANSFER of Power....I talk about it all the time with Caitlin, just trying to prepare her for this terrible moment, because to borrow your words, it's dangerous!!!!
The PB has power, but you took it away this time...and put it back in a respected place, a rung out of distance and reach at this time...PB is one of those things that will probably always have to be handled with respect...
      Real power transfered....yesterday.

Good Job on refusing to give into a craving. I bet you feel 20 times better then you did when you where faced with the PB. I am proud that you kept up with us and remembered the cheating thread that you didn't want to post. Honesty is always the best policy.

No doubt about it.. nuts are rough in induction. I freely admit I skipped up the rungs and took almonds earlier than I should have, but I needed them as a snack food. As long as I VERY strictly control the portion to no more than 1 a day I can do it. But I have to keep strict control. And I avoid peanuts.

I think it is interesting to read how so many people have trouble with nuts! They fill me up and never give me cravings. I've tried sunflower seeds, peanuts and almonds. I'm glad though. I haven't found anything that gives me cravings.. well.. sometimes berries.. but it could be the cream I eat with it. Haven't figured it out.

                Re: DANGER of restarting Atkins.

                Thanks People!!!

Transfer of Power....WOW! Nuts were not a problem for me before and that was what the danger was yesterday. I, too, read that nuts have been a problem for many and my take on it is because, while we are not supposed to count calories, they do play a part. For instance, your ratios can be right on but if you are consuming 4000 a day calories it is highly unlikely that you would lose weight. As you get smaller you require less calories to substain your body. Admitedly, on Atkins we can consume slightly more due to our bodies burning fat as fuel instead of carbs. But calories will influence us.

The problem with nuts is that they are very calorie dense. So it is very easy to overeat on them unless you are being strict with them. I think that that is were the problem may lie with some people. They do need to be limited.

                Just my opinion!

                Thanks for the support everyone!

Nuts, maybe even PB might be a trigger food for some people...it's worth noting.
I suspect you truly escaped a storm...last night, I had a huge craving, it took hold of me for a very short time...but it was intense. A very strong intimitdaing moment, it shook me up, and made me think of what you might have overcome!

                      Re: DANGER of restarting Atkins.

PB is a problem for me, too. I have just finished day thirteen of re-induction and thankfully have not had the craving, BUT I have almost reached for it a few times because my body is conditioned to being able to have it on atkins. I highly recommend that anyone thinking about going through induction again, read the book. You really do forget things. PB is not induction friendly!

                      Spoken from someone who knows...

what the rungs mean to me:
                      rung 1 - more veggies
rung 2 - dairy (some milk in coffee)
rung 3 - seeds, nuts (mostly sprinkled on salads)
                      rung 4 - berries, melon
                      rung 5 - wine -
                      rung 6 - beans, hummus
                      rung 7 - other fruits
rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)
                      Major Goal - 128 lbs/ healthy range
                      (on to pre-maintenance)

I agree with it being dangerous the second time. It's harder for me to re-learn, than learn. I'm trying to check all foods and amounts all the time. Once I get all that down, I will have more posting time.

I have to agree. This time I'm taking the time to learn to do it correctly. I've even starting using Fit day! yikes! I want to be successful forever this time around. Last time I just seemed to eat an the weight came off. Now I'm learning so much

Yes..that is part of the danger too...we kinda have to unlearn in the beginning. Not everything is legal anymore so it is easy to get confused on some things.
