  • Fitday Beginner!

Ok, I am a fitday beginner!
I have made more mistakes than done it right, which has probably increased my desire to avoid it..But I know people who use it, and Dragonflymoon feels it has greatly helped her...So, I am signed up.

Mistake #1 Don't misspell avocado for avacado, you'll get nowhere...
Mistake # 2 Hamburger is "Ground beef"...
Both of these errors made me log out, walk away and come back later...

Can the pro's share mistakes to avoid...and tips for success!!!

My number 1 question right now is do you wipe out one meal, to begin to record the next...
I had my lunch on there...Like the rations, now I am ready to "build" dinner, but it's still got lunch on there...should I keep adding it all together, or start over...

What does NSF mean in many of the descriptions...
I liked what Jimmie said over at Rachel's thread, customizing food at first is a pain in the A** but, worth it..I have customized 4 foods, and they were regulars, like Jenna, and there were right there!!!
I am slowly getting it...Since I am in extended induction, I have eaten at will, but now, I can see based on what i plugged in, I need to just eat green beans tonight...
and plan more carefully tomorrow...hmmmm maybe there is more to this than I thought...working my ratio's might actually cause something good to happen..

Same here! I'm really curious as to my ratios and hoping to help see a steady loss. AND help keep me on track.

I don't know what NFS means either... i'd be interested to find that out. When you delete things you have to do it item by item, as far as i know! I play around with that all of the time... i'll plug in hypothetical foods ahead of time to make sure i am on the right track. I am no expert, i just started this 2 weeks ago, so i'd love to hear from some people who have been using this for a long time!

I pre-PLUGGED tomorrow's food...amazing! At first I told Caitlin we were in a little trouble...my biggest trouble is bacon, too much of it...
So, I plugged a new breakfast, lunch and dinner and we are well within Range..
All is well...very interesting..My DH is reading all sorts of things off to me and I am building a personal customized library of foods...
          very cool...
I am gonna make up some menu's... and play around..

I'm not a stac member but I've been using fitday since my lowfat/lowcal days.

As far as I know NFS means Not Fully Specified.

The best tip I can give is to use the browse option, I've been able to find information that way when I couldn't find it by searching. If you need to add something you've already added at some point you can click "add recent" and go down to "all recent foods" and look there.

                Re: Fitday Beginner!

I think FitDay and DietPower are great! It helps you see what vitamins you lack on a regular basis, what ratios you're eating, how many calories you burn with exercise, carbs, fibers, etc. The DietPower program even tells you that you need more water, more protein, etc.

It sure helps in keeping you accountable and on track, that is for sure!

And, it is worth the time to customize if there isn't an entry for your food. Then the next time you eat it, it only takes a second to click on that item and enter it for the day.

All the meals are categorized by day instead of each meal. That way you can see if your day's ratios are correct or any other totals that you may be tracking.

I'm glad you're trying it! Keep us posted.

I think you have it figured out now Jess..but no you do not delete that meal. Everything you eat does not have to be right on the money. You are shooting for your whole day to be in the ranges. That should give you some playing around room. Keeping that in mind you still need some fat to eat with your vegies.

                        Re: Fitday Beginner!

I love Fitday. Although it takes some time to find the right items in the beginning, it is well worth it when you want to keep track of your intake. It counts all the carbs including the fractions worth that you get in eggs and coffee for example. Sometimes I am surprised at how fast it adds up and realize I have to make an adjustment in how much or what I am going to eat.

That being said, I wish there were more brand name items in there that could be easily retrieved. Any item with less than 1g of carb but more than 0.5g per serving will be listed as <1g, and if it has less than 0.5g per serving it is listed as zero. The problem lies in that if you use three servings of something it is really hard to know what the true carb count is.

Anyone got a good answer to this? Who puts the prepopulated food in Fitday?
